1. RE: Season 4 Trailer without the interviews

I am getting so excited. The show looks great. My favorite little bit in the trailer is the exchange between Henry and Katherine when he thinks she is pregnant. The relief and pride -- almost paternal towards her in a weird, sexually mixed up way - is incredible -- how does he convey all of that? And her face is absolutely priceless. (Is it possible she will be pregnant by Cullpepper?) I think she looks to be doing really well with this part, based on the trailer, except for possibly being a little over-the-top childlike in a scene or two.

Interesting observation, frogy23! I agree with what you have said.I have a theory about Catherine & her possible pregnancy this season! I realize that a lot of people on this site do not put much stock in Alison Weir's books, but, for what it's worth, I remember reading in her "Six Wives" book that Katherine Howard either thought she was pregnant (and later realized that she wasn't) or suffered a miscarriage at one point during her marriage to Henry and that Henry was subsequently depressed for a few months. I recall Weir's speculation that Henry's brief depression (and subsequent withdrawal from Katherine and everyone else) might have rendered Katherine a little more vulnerable to Culpepper's charms/advances. It was during this period that the affair is thought to have begun. If you watch the trailer closely (and the sequence of events), it seems to suggest that (in the show at least) Katherine will have a miscarriage (or a disappointment of this nature), that Henry will subsequently go away for a while in order to recover from his subsequent depression (or perhaps from a flare-up of his leg wound), and that Katherine will then turn to Culpepper for love, comfort, and possibly for [another?] pregnancy. What do you guys think?? Do you find this valuable? |

Ok so I looked at the trailer again with the sound off and I think you may have hit on something here. Perhaps, as you say, one of numerous motivations for her affair with Culpepper is that she can't have Henry's child and is worried for her life. I don't read the history books so can never comment on the show from that perspective but this seems like an approach Hirst might take to make Katherine more sympathetic -- which is something he is always trying to do with the wives.

The trailler has been edited to make it look as if Henry is asking Anne of Cleves to sleep with him, imo. Don't know why, though. And is that Thomas Culpepper being hanged, drawn and quartered? As for a child being the motivation behind Katherine's affair, there is little in the way of historical evidence to back that up, but its something that numerous drama series, like the Tudors, has hit upon in the past. Its highly doubtful whether Katherine even had sex with Culpepper, never mind tried to put his bastard child on the throne of England! Do you find this valuable? |

I'm thinking as you are Elliemental that the trailer is edited to make it appear that Henry asks to sleep with Cleves. I don't think they will go in that direction, nor would it make particular sense to do so.
