20. RE: The Thread For Discussion on the Tudors Series

I too would have liked the series to have started from prince Arthur's death. It would have been amazing to see Henry grow from a boy to the fearless king that he became. I loved the wrestling scene in this episode. Their egos were on the line and I'm sure the English court fully expected Henry to win. Even I did when I first watched it (not really knowing too much back then). I also loved it when all the festivities were over and he completely trashed his room again that was his ego. I felt so sorry for queen Katherine when she walked in to the celebration of his son, the one thing she wanted. It was such a touching moment especially being a woman watching it. Ooh also the beard mm he looked lush lol. Do you find this valuable? |

I have always been rather surprised at the fact that Henry lost that wrestling match In the series it would seem likely as the actor playing King Francis was of a larger build than Jonathan. However, in real life King Francis although tall for the time of day was definitely less well built than King Henry VIII. LOL Francis must have found a way of distracting Henry.

Did you see when Katherine laid her hand on Claude's? It was like look at our foolish husbands lol. But historically wasn't. Henry getting a little fat by this time? It might have affected his wrestling.

No, the Field of Cloth of Gold took place in 1520 when Henry would have been around 29 - he should have been at his peak! By the way, did not notice Katherine's hand on Claude's will check it out.

Weren't Queen Claude and the Queen mother (who wasn't shown) both very suspious of Catherine's support for the treaty ? They both thought that Catherine was working on Henry to abandon it before it was even signed. (Quite correctly as it turned out). It would have been interesting to see a scene where Claude warns her husband about Catherine and Henry's motives.

I never heard of that, but that is interesting. In the series we know that Catherine disapproves saying the Valois are her familie's enemies and she didn't like Mary's betrothal. I would not have minded seeing a scene like that.

Yes, both Queens being all sweet to each other in public and then showing their real feelings in private. International politics hasn't changed much over the years has it ?

"Did you see when Katherine laid her hand on Claude's? It was like look at our foolish husbands.I noticed that too lol. I never heard of the suspicion either hmm that would of been really good to watch. Sometimes I wonder why they left certain things out. Don't get me wrong I loved every single minute of the series but the true history is just as exciting so it would of been great to see it. In episode 2 Henry asked The Duke of Suffolk to speak with the Duke of Norfolk and issue a thinly veiled threat that the King wished to remind Norfolk to do his duty and bring in the correct verdict (guilty of treason) on Buckingham We see Norfolk with a young boy (supposed to be his son) Suffolk produces a ring that belonged to Norfolk''s father and Norfolk said that Henry's father had his father killed. This is untrue Norfolk's father spent a few years in The Tower because he supported Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth. He actually was 80 when he died. a natural death. We know that the programme changed a lot of detail but this one seemed rather pointless to me. Also if the young child was meant to be Henry Howard then he certainly aged very quickly lol The comments about Howard are for a later time, but why they chose somebody of David O'Hara's age to play a man that was only around 29 when he was executed is a reall mystery to me. Had the actor who played Norfolk still been in the programme in Season 4 then he and O'Hara would have looked more like brothers than father and son..

And didn't the king pin it on Wolsey so Duke of Buckingham's supporters would blame him. Because when the DOB was pronounced guilty he started blaming Wolsey. Henry......

I thought that was just the Duke assuming that because he hated Wolsey it was him who wanted to destroy him. They would have had to age up the Duke of Norfolk quite a bit to make him look old enough to be O'Hara's father. It was like when Cromwell's son turned up and my mate said 'That's his son, he must have been a very randy 10 year old!'

Yes, I think that the Duke of Buckingham hated Wolsey so much he just assumed he had set him up. It was ironic that it was Wolsey, who advised Henry to spare his life.

"lol freya9, that is a good comeback!Interesting question princess212. I don't think Henry comitted himself with regard to agreeing to Margaret marrying whom she pleased. When she askd the question they were dancing and he sort of nodded his head but that could have been part of the dance. He never agreed to it in so many words. Do you find this valuable? |
