If you have a spare $2 - $3 million, La Peregrina, the pearl that Philip gave to his queen Mary I goes on sale.Richard Burton paid $37,000 over 40 years ago and gave it to his "queen" Elizabeth Taylor who recently passed away. It will be interesting to see who manages to scoop this little treasure. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2041011/Elizabeth-Taylors-100m-collection-gems-gowns-art-goes-display-Christies-auction-house.html 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Let's hope if they give it to a loved one they have better luck than the other two couples who have owned it. ;)

I watched a show that aired maybe 6 months ago on the Hope diamond. (When I was younger I was really interested in rocks and gemstones and such, and have found some raw ones and gotten them cut) It turns out the Hope Diamond isn't just the Hope Diamond. But it's actually the French Blue Diamond that was stolen when Versailles Treasury was broken into during the French Revolution. The theif sold it to Hope and one of them pretty much ruined the diamond by recutting it, because the orginal French Blue had a very intense faceting to bring out the true color of the stone. But they recut it so that it wouldn't be recognized as the missing French Blue diamond (which was much larger obviously). I wonder if that is why none of the people who owned it were very fortunate. I thought it was really interesting how they figured out it was that. It was the the recutter really did a shoddy job on it and you could still see the orginal fasets. It was cut by the order of Louis XV (I believe, though it may have been Louis XIV) and was orginally brought to him from India. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

La Peregrina sold for a record amount! $11 million ( 5 times what was expected)You can see the auction in a little video clip at the bottom of this article. No word on who the buyer was though. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2073821/Elizabeth-Taylors-jewels-fetch-115m-Richard-Burton-La-Peregrina-pearl-goes-11m.html Do you find this valuable? |
