Most of the movies mentioned are on YouTube. So we don't really need to spend on this. So we have,A man for all seasons - 1988, 1966, 1957, 1964 version? Anne of a thousand days - 1969 Mary Queen of Scots - 1971 Lady Jane - 1986 (there is an interesting version with the same name that seems to be about Jane Grey transported to modern times! [2007]) My pick is Fire over England - 1937 (Did I mention I love old B&W movies? This one is on Youtube as well!) Do you find this valuable? |

"LOL....I wonder what is going to happen to Liz Taylor's jewels? Amazing how a jewel worn by Mary I was actually worn by Liz doing an unbilled part on Anne of A thousand days. I am sure Mary would be rolling in her grave if she knew."Just heard that Liz Taylor's Jewel collection is going to be auctioned soon. Its worth 500 million and the proceeds are going to her Aids charity. It will be interesting to see who manages to bag Mary I's pearl and what it will go for. I think Richard Burton only paid about $37,000 but it has to be worth much much more now. Do you find this valuable? |

Now that Wolf Hall has been chosen as one of the books for the book read, i would really like to watch A Man for All Seasons together with everyone and compare the representation of Thomas More in the film and in the book.So maybe we can ear mark that one for a bit down the road.

"Sasha it would be very interesting indeed to review A Man For All Seasons to compare the representation in Wolf Hall and in the film. I would also be very interested to compare Paul Schofield's Thomas More with Jeremy Northam's version in The Tudors - both were brilliantly acted but they present a very different Thomas More. Anne of a Thousand Days - quite lengthy, it felt like I was watching it for a thousand days, but it's good all the same. Lady Jane - starring a young Helen Bonham-Carter before she went goth and Patrick "slaphead" Stewart. Elizabeth - even though they rewrote history by giving Lord Burghley an early retirement and killing off Lettice, it's still a good historical romp all the same. Watch out for the versatile James Frain as the dodgy Spanish Ambassador. Elizabeth:The Golden Age - I wonder what this is about?! :) Blanchett is back with avengence and bigger ruffs. Samantha Morton was outstanding as Mary Queen of Scots. The Other Boleyn Girl - ONLY JOKING!!!! Henry VIII and his six wives - it's the one that was filmed in the 70s starring Keith Michelle. I haven't seen it since I was little and cannot find it anywhere, but I remember it being really good and it kind of triggered my interest in the whole era. One I wouldn't recommend is Henry VIII starring Ray Winstone. I kind of found it difficult taking the ganster, cockney King seriously, especially when he went skinny dipping with Anne Boleyn in the Leeds Castle moat....... Do you find this valuable? |

I thought the Ray Winstone Henry VIII was quite interesting. The idea of casting an actor who is most well known for gangster bosses brought out a different aspect of the character. The Tudor dynasty after all was the result of a violent take over.

Ate you wanting me to include the Ray Winstone TV Series Freya? This thread has got a little bit rambling, it is rather difficult for me to know which films people want for inclusion on the list and those that have just been mentioned in passing. I hope to get the poll up and running very soon..

No, I was just making a comment about the casting. Although the Ray Winstone Henry VIII had some good performances I know a lot of the members would be extremley annoyed by the absence of Thomas More.

Why not add everything Caroll? It does not take long for people to watch movies, and almost everything is available on Youtube.

"Why not add everything Caroll? It does not take long for people to watch movies, and almost everything is available on Youtube."Okay I will add everything Kav. As the poll will be the same as for the books - just the first two past the winning post by the deadline, it won't take any longer to complete. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
