That Look Away Moment! Poll

There were a great deal of gory execution scenes in The Tudors. I thought it might be interesting to vote for the one that we found the most disturbing. We put a plus by the one we found the most gory and a minus against the one that made us shudder the least. Eventually we will be left with just the winner. Excellent poll Carol!!!!!! Cromwell's execution was SO disturbing to me that I still have not watched it. I did not think Anne's was disturbing at all, for some reason. I was confused at first but now I get it. I would have said Cromwell, but the one for me was Francis Dereham. Not so much Culpeper, but more Dereham. There seems to be a consensus about the Dereham/Culpepper executions!!!I'll be the odd one out in this game then!!! I would have to go back and watch it, but in my mind, from all the people listed here, they deserved it the most. Culpepper for sleeping with the Queen, which is suicide, and Dereham for being an arrogant ass and coming back to make trouble. So to add some bite to this game I will counteract that one. well I don't know about that. As Starkey put it, Dereham was tortured, hung, drawn, castrated and quartered "all for sleeping a few times with an attractive and willing teenage girl who at the time was NOT married" which to our modern eyes does not seem to be deserving of that kind of awful death. Culpepper, never admitted to adultery however, he may have been setting himself up with Henry's soon to be.......widow. So perhaps he was guilty of treason. MsSquirrly I certainly agree that Francis Dereham did not deserve that awful gruesome fate. I just think that maybe both he and Culpeper might have been more deserving of some punishment than most of the others on this list. Live was very hard in Tudor England.

Ahh its' just after midnight so I can cast a vote, and contribute to the discussion without derailing the thread. Anyway, I agree MsS! Dereham slept with Katherine long before she was Queen, yet that was enough to earn him a most dreadful death. Also, how come no one seems to care about poor old Buckingham? He cried, and everything! Also, while on the subject, was no one disturbed by Cromwell's friend being burned? I found that very upsetting, for some reason. To me, his was the saddest and hardest to watch . and Cromwell was another true and loyal subject of his king . I was watching Season 1 last night, and Wolsey said to Henry that Buckingham should be found guilty and stripped of all his titles rather than executed, as he would be disgraced, and Henry agreed to this. So how come when Buckingham was found guilty, Norfolk sentenced him to death? Did I miss something? Its always bugged me since the first time I watched it. Do you find this valuable? |
