All These People "Related" to Henry VIII
Jun 14 2011, 8:46 AM EDT
Where is this information coming from? I would be rather sceptical about claims to be a "direct descendant" of Henry VIII at all times. But especially when its' supposedly from obscure illegitimate child who just happens to have escaped the attention of every historian, chronicler and courtier of the time.

There seems to be so many "direct descendants" of Henry VIII that very soon those of us who are not descendants will be as rare as hen's teeth! 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Many of us are probably 'related' to Henry VIII, because something like three-quarters of people with English ancestors are descended from his great-great-great grandfather Edward III.However, unless new information comes to light, there are no proven direct descendants of Henry himself. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. According to Geneologists, it is a proven fact that up to half of the UK population has blue blood. This is all due to illegitimate blood lines linked to the royal family. Kings of the past have had their fair share of mistresses - Charles II was fondly known as "the merry monarch". So, I do believe there is some small element of truth in some people's claims to the royal blood line. I know someone that claims that Anne Boleyn is an indirect ancestor. She has raven hair, black eyes, a short temper, flirts with all the men and no one gets on with her. So, I guess she's telling the truth. :) 3 out of 7 found this valuable. Do you? |

This relates to the whole of the UK. Also, apparently, the real King of England is an old man who works on a rice farm in Australia - his great great great great great granny was one of the Plantagenets! :)

I'm a genealogist and I've yet to find any direct descendants of Henry myself. If anything they are cousins or nephews and nieces. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

They do really seem to be dropping out of the sky lately... and by lately I mean the last four or five months. It almost seemed like every day I took a look at the discussion forum, there was one or two people claiming to be direct descendants of Henry VIII, via some Agnes Blewitt, or some name like that. Honestly, I've never even heard of this woman, so I'm going to assume she's one of Henry's lesser known mistresses, and therefore if he did in actual fact have children with her, he certainly didn't acknowledge them in the same fashion he did Henry Fitzroy, making me very sceptical of their claims.Though, these 'descendants' seem to be popping up so often, I just kinda roll by eyes, and bite my tongue, all the while thinking to myself 'Well, if it makes them happy...' OK, that may have been harsh =P 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

We're an old English, Scotch-Irish family from way back. It took me over a decade to discover them all. Some people will add them into the family just on a word. I wont. I have to see the line before I put it down in the family records. Anne comes in from the Dandridge-Lee family in our case. The Dandridge is Martha Dandridge Washington who was married to George Washington and the Lee's are from Shropshire, England, (General Robert E. Lee). But it's all aunts, uncles, cousins for me. Nothing direct except for the Earl of Shaftesbury who is my gggggggggggggggg grandfather, lol. He served as MP under Charles II. I'm a Berkeley descendant too...wonder how my castle is doing these days, lol. ;p 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Someone I knew was a descendant of Robert Burns but considering the amount of illegitimate children he had this is not a select group.

If someone is related to the Merry Monarch, Charles II, that does, however, make them a direct descendent of Henry VII. Charles' great gran, Mary Queen of Scots, was the great grand-daughter of Henry VII.

It doesn't seem plausible to me. I mean we already know that none of Henry's children had heirs and Henry Fitzroy didn't have any. People can be an indirect descendant of Henry VIII. King James I of England was his nephew. But other than that I wouldn't believe it.

Some Historians believe that Henry may have had more affairs than are recorded. If that's true it could be possible that one of them might have had an illegitimate child who could have descendants. However the chances of this seem slim considering Henry's difficulty in producing healthy children. Also how on earth would you know ?

That people who claim to be a direct descedant of Henry VIII aren't telling the truth? I guess you really can't know. IMO I would want some serious hard evidence before I believed it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I wouldn't say that they were lying, as such. More "misled". However, if you're going to be descended from any medieval monarch, it's more likely to be Henry I, and his 22 illegitimate children. :P Do you find this valuable? |
