She DID live to see Mary Tudor become queen and they seemed to have been good friends.Anne seemed to have been a very likable and kind woman.Even Henry warmed to her once he no longer had to be married to her! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Yes she was friends with Mary until after the Wyatt Rebellion when Mary's attitude is said to have cooled towards her. Mary suspected her of involvement in the rebellion, which seems to have been unfounded. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I think Anne of Cleves was the most fortunate of his wives as she wasv quicly divorced, didn't have to consumate her union with Henry (who by then was not very attractive) & became his "good sister" enjoying a comfortable & respectable life for the rest of her days.

You're right she lived 1515-1557, and never saw Elizabeth become Queen. Yes, Henry warmed to her, and and to Mary. She must have been a wonderul, friendly, and fun person. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

What a lucky noblewoman, to have everything women of status greater than hers could never have:
Freedom
Riches
Considered sister to the king
Choice of husband (though she was smart and never took one!)

I have never understood why a person who is not in love feels a NEED to get married. Anne of Cleves showed that she didn't, and had wonderul life as the noble woman she was before marrying Henry, which at first, during, and after a political success. Anne enjoyed this succes as she was the one who came up with the idea of "sister" and Henry agreed. She was indeed very intelligent, and "never took one!" Good for her! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Well in those times women needed men and needed to be married to have a good life, they couldn't work much on their own as far as I know so if they did not want to end up on the streets they had to get married. Unless you are noble, like Anne of Cleves then you dont have to marry if you dont want to because you mostly have some income. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

And, yes, I was talking strictly about Anne of Cleves. You might add Elizabeth I to the nobility list as well, but that's not for this thread. My interest in the Tudors came with my major in European History with a concentration in the Renaissance and Reformation. England was an integral part of the Reformation, and that's where my interest to read much further on his wives. Thank you for responding! 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?
