favorite scene in ep. 4.3 with extra who posted on this wiki

I thought this episode was fantastic. Lots going on, fast-paced and loads of drama. My favorite scene, though, had to be Henry laying hands on the sick. It features the lovely extra who posted of her experience here some time back. JRM in incredibly moving in this scene as Henry himself is deeply moved by the experience. Then he seems to carry this weariness on his back as he gets on his horse and rides away. I thought it was beautiful.

Yes DIzzylizzyone and she actually had a line. Check out her thread here : http://tudorswiki.sho.com/thread/3145728/I+looked+into+the+eyes+of+King+Henry+VIII+in+July+on+set!!!!!It was an interesting scene.... the King suddenly showing some compassion and perhaps because he is sick...feeling some empathy? Also, that he is starting to believe in his own press....that he really is the representative of God and could heal. Do you find this valuable? |

It was believed that God's annointed sovereign was given the Lords sovereignty to rule over his people, like a sheperd to his flock. This intern was a belief from medieval times that on one day a year one could come to the King and have his hands laid upon a poor person and they would be healed. There was high godly-like reverence to the Kings person becasue his status as God's annointed sovereign. So there is huge religious symbolism and ritualism that goes into a coronation. A great reference is looking at old video of Elizabeth II coronation, the ceremony really hasn't changed much over the centuries. So becomming King or Queen was like being called to a religious vocation to your people, country and God. I do like the scene in ep 4.3 too that is one of the more serious responsabilites that he had on his shoulders. I think everyone looks at the pretty castles, clothing, jewlery and material items besides the ultimate political power and thinks how awesome it would be to be King. In reality it is not a job for the faint of heart, there is not only the responsability of being the leader of the government and law of the country. There is also the huge religous calling to this job and seriousness of that deep commitment it requires. In the series I think it was S2 ep2, I do remeber King Francis talking to Anne boleyn when she visited France with Henry. They had a person to person conversation about not being born into royalty and the huge commitment it took. Francis did mention those not born into this postion had a most difficult time being a good sovereign. Francis did question a bit her motives and if she really knew what she was getting herself into. Which of course I think Anne was looking more at the big picture than the shear facts of the the royal union. Later on I do feel she did adjust well to her job and the religous aspect in reference to promoting the reformation. Do you find this valuable? |
