Season 2 or Season 3 Jane Seymour?
Apr 8 2010, 10:38 AM EDT
I don't know about the rest of you but I really did not like the acting Season 2 Jane did. I absolutly loved Annabelle Wallis and Jane in Season 3. She was great. She played the role so beautifully her picture should be up there not Season 2 Jane. Long live Season 3 Jane!!

Definatly Annabelle Wallis as Jane. She played her beautifully. I have no opion on Anita Briem's performance as Jane. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Anita is prettier and acted sneakier while Annabelle is attractive and sorry to say, bland. But perhaps not her fault since that's how it was written. No depth to the character at all.

"Anita is prettier and acted sneakier while Annabelle is attractive and sorry to say, bland. But perhaps not her fault since that's how it was written. No depth to the character at all. "Completely agree. To be honest, I don't think either actress is the next Meryl Streep, but both performed adequately (though not brilliantly) in a very bland role. I agree that Anita did manage to give the character a slighly sneaky edge, whereas Annabelle was just dull. But this may be more to do with the script - when Anabelle took over the role, Jane was already established and Ann was out of the way, so you didn't get to see her when Jane's family (and arguably herself) were scheming to have her replace Ann. I would like to know why they changed the actress from one season to the next. Perhaps Anita was just contracted for Season 2, and got another offer which she wanted to pursue before Season 3, but it is a bit odd. You would think it more likely that they contracted the actress for the entire length of time the character would feature, which was only a few more episodes in Jane's case. Long live Season 3 Jane!!"Admittedly I've only seen three episodes of S3 (I don't get Showtime, must rely on DVDs) and only one of them was a Jane Seymour episode, so I'm not in the best position to judge, but I prefer the S2 Jane. I don't necessarily think the issue is the actresses, but the way Jane was portrayed. S2 Jane was more of a flesh and blood human being; they showed her internal conflict and her moral ambiguity (do I behave like an honorable woman or do I follow my heart and family and dally with the married King?). I liked her, despite my anguish for what Anne was going through. They made the decision to portray her as a saint walking on water in the season opener of S3, which irritated me so much I had no desire to see any more Jane episodes. And I want to beatch-slap the Suffolks. "We'll all be happy now." Yeah, ding dong the witch is dead, now we have a perfect blonde saint among us, isn't it great that Anne's gone, because she's evil and you, Charles, are such a great guy and are in the best position to pass judgment. :pp. As someone who liked Anne in spite of her faults I couldn't stand watching that, and I ended up not watching most of S3. The S3 actress was good, I just didn't care for the 2 dimensional way she was written. Do you find this valuable? |

I must admit I fell in love with Jane while watching Annabelle, but then I watched all the Anita scenes and Annabelle scenes back to back (yea I'm a bit freaky like that) and must say I like Anita's portrayal better ONLY because of the script and the costumes. I think Hirst really let himself down with the evolution of her character in season three and Annabelle had to only work off that script, but Annabelle did well with what she was given. I must admit I loved Anita's costumes more than Annabelle's and for me the costumes represent the personality and traits of characters.

While I think Anabelle is prettier, Anita's Jane was sneakier and more multi-dimensional. It would have been interesting to have had that character carry over into S3. I'm not sure if it was Anabelle or the script either, but I suspect it was likely the script. It was the same with Anne. S1 Anne and S2 Anne are different characters just as S2 and S3 Jane are completely different too. Do you find this valuable? |

Exactly...I couldn't stand the Jane role in Season 2...I honestly think it was truely because Anne is my favorite of the queens and Jane came messin with my favorite....but while Jane was married to Henry she was supposedly this perfect wife and I think Annabelle did that wonderfully.

I too, love very much Anne and that so disgusted me to see people being delighted at her death. I was able to look at all the season 3 but I hadn't find interest on it, in fact Anne's presence was too much lacking to the season, no character managed to arouse enough my interest so that I may become used to her absence. And I admit that, already that I had was raised against the Jane of the season 2, the Jane of the season 3 so annoyed me, that I was relieved when she died. Do you find this valuable? |

as much i hate the charcter swapping i think Annabelle Wallis was the much better Jane Seymour, Anita Briem mumbled her lines and was far too thin to play her. Also when she looks at Anne when Anes studying her locket her look looks almost evill!I think that when jane is told of henrys affair with Ursula she could have showed a bit more pain and given her lines with force! I consider Wallis "prime" Jane Seymour, though i don't hate Briem (gotta support Scandinavian Iceland! Vikings ftw! -the Nordic people, not the sports team-). One thing I'd like to know, though, is why she did not return as Lady Seymour in Season 3? Was it because of negative fan-reaction, prior engagements or something more uncontrollable?

I made a comment on another thread about how replacing the actress that played Jane seemed to distance her from her involvement in Anne's downfall. I said that of course that was not why the Producers did this. Then later I read of comment by one of the producers, Hirst I think, that that was exactly why they did it !

Thinking like that, why they did not change Natalie Dormer on S2?? and, as someone already said before, as far as i liked Annabelle, none of them are like Emilia Fox's Seymour. She gave to Jane brains and courage more than kindness. Do you find this valuable? |

"I have never seen a comment like that reported of Hirst and if you have a source, that would be fascinating. However, as far as I am aware there has never been a definitive statement. There were some rumours that the actress didn't want to do nude scenes....but realistically, she had just got a couple of movie deals and I think she made her priorities accordingly. The comment was from part of an interview that was quoted by another member on another thread. I can't remember which one.

Hmm fascinating although I do wish that they would have just cast Annabelle for seasons 2 and 3 but at least with two different Jane's you got seemingly two different styles but overall the writing for the character could have been better and she could have hung around a little longer in season 3!!
