"I thought we were discussing Dereham here, not Smeaton. "
Yup. We were discussing Dereham and Kitty. So two things...

1. How do you think they're going to portray Dereham on the show? It seems that they're going the "Bad Guy/Sicko/Stalker" route with Culpepper. Do you think Dereham is going to be a blackmailing A**hole too? (I honestly think he WAS)

2. Speaking of Smeaton, I can't recall the author or title but I recently read in passing about a new book coming out that puts forth the theory that Anne Boleyn actually DID commit adultery. (I am not saying I agree, just mentioning the theory, so don't hurt me! LOL!) Has anyone here heard about this book?

1. I think you could be right ...that he will be a blackmailer...same as Joan Bulmer.

2. The book is called Fatal Attraction by G.W. Bernard and due out next month. Here is a page on it : http://tudorswiki.sho.com/photo/8702352/Anne+Boleyn%3A+Fatal+attraction+by+G.W.+Bernard - there is a thread at the bottom of the page too.

Since they have decided to portray Katherine as a victim, then probably Dereham is a blackmailer.

As for Anne Boleyn, I believe that she once brushed off Mark Smeaton. If she did commit adultery, the likeliest candidates were Henry Norris and Thomas Wyatt. I have always been alive to the possibility, but the more frivolous charges against her have obscured any reality that could lie beneath.

I could agree with Norris and Wyatt (If any of them) but agree that the rest is absolute rubbish. :)

I also have always personally seen Kathryn as a hapless victim (of her own self and others LOL!) and am excited for Dereham to arrive in the series.

Actually by the time the author comes to give this talk - there probably won't be anything new to learn about this book. We are not known for getting news all that quickly in The U.K - hence our long wait for Season 4 of The Tudors. Do you find this valuable?

Because Anne Boleyn was such a flirt, i can believe she may have given Smeaton ideas, and considering his naivety, it would have been difficult for him to dismiss them. It has been assumed he had a crush on her, and that it went no further than that, which i believe. Norris is a bit sketchy, especially considering that thread that was once opened here to discuss the possiblity he may have confessed, which he apparently did. Wyatt is the only one i've always had my suspicions about, but only before Anne's marriage to Henry, not during. Particularly given some of his choice words under interrogation in the Tower 'the King knows well what i told him before he married her'.

When Dereham shows up, both Katherine and Joan were not happy to see him. Dereham arrives with a "letter of reccomendation" from the Dowager Duchess, and uses this (plus threats of going public with his past with Katherine) as a way to be placed in the Queen's household. Jane Bulmer tells Dereham to not speak of the past, and reminds him that what he says could ruin their lives, and that it is best not to- as this was the best that they could ever attain in life (belonging to the royal household).

Of course, Dereham disregards Jane's advice, and starts boasting to others how he knew the queen "well," and even boasted that he could tell Katherine's "lady bits" (of course he used the "c" word) from a hundreds others.

This boasting leads to an investigation, and it is through this investigation (and torture) that Dereham tells Seymour about his past with the queen, and the queen's affair with Culpepper.

I have seen up to episode 6, but unfortunately it was not online. I have seen test audience screenings, much of it still preproduction...not sure if any copies of those have made their rounds of torrent sites yet...

I did send MsSquirly screen shots of Katherine's execution. I am new to the site, so I did not know how to upload them.
