The Final Scene - SPOILER

I don't know how many of you have read all the production notes, but did you read the Costume Designer, Joan Bergin's section where she discusses the final scene? It sounds wonderful especially with the complete reincarnation of the Holbein portrait we are all familiar with, of Henry. This is what she said :"... the greatest thrill for me was making the costume for the famous Holbein portrait that everyone knows of Henry VIII. I think everyone thought that we would deliver a version of it, but what we delivered was every exact detail, so that when he walked onto the set the gasp was very wonderful! We even made the jewellery to match the portrait. It was just wonderful. How did you dress the final scenes that end the season and the show? The final great moment is the reappearance of Henry’s wives so I went for the whole gothic look, black and big veils. They appear in costumes that we haven’t seen before; I thought it was important to have a particular look to have them as almost a separate poster for the last 2 episodes to show him as old. He got the most wonderful makeup from an LA makeup artist to show him old. So they are kind of angels of death really, all black and white." It will be interesting to see which portrait she used since Holbein's orginal only exists in cartoon form and all the other portraits are copies....check out this collection of portraits : http://tudorswiki.sho.com/photos/album/112478/Henry+VIII%27s+full+length+portraits Do you find this valuable?

What picture do you think they will use MsSquirrly? Do you find this valuable? |

I am not sure which one they will use but its one of the more famous ones. The wives as "angels of death": is also cool....you can imagine them all waiting like vultures LOL. I'm very excited about the wives' scenes! The costumes sound amazing, I thought they would just re-use their costumes from the show as that was what the extra who wrote a report confirming the sequence implied.

I think JRM would look great in that one. And the wives as "angels of death' should be very interesting. I can't wait to see them all again. I wonder if they will all be getting along amongst themselves, since they have a 'common interest'. This should be one time that he can't order them around...should be quite a scene, to be sure! "The wives as "angels of death": is also cool....you can imagine them all waiting like vultures LOL."That kind of reminds me of the movie "13 Ghosts" with the way the spirits were circled around the guy who had them trapped. I can imagine Henry on his deathbed seeing his dead wives circled around his bed and looking down on him in his final moments and making him realize that he might have had a lot of power to control things in life, but his death is one thing he can't control. It is the wives revenge of sorts, for all the hell he put them through, swarming to get a piece of their Henry. lol, It should be good and I look foward to seeing how it all turns out. Though it will be different to see JRM old, I am interested to see how the makeup artists achieve it. I am pretty happy they are doing the authentic tudor outfit from Holbien for him. I hope they could do the Holbein clothing for each the wives too. Think about it, if changed the colors to make the gowns more sullen to show death and the whole "angel of death effect", it would look so sharp. I have to admit having six angels of death to come and get you, could be good or bad. Good in the way that it shows that his vivaciousness for life on earth was so strong that he wanted to live forever. Bad in the fact that he has to face his past mistakes and sins, and they are catching up with him. The fact that His queen consorts are going escort him to his salvaion or his doom, the uncertainty is just interesting. Do you find this valuable? |

"I hope they'll have more to do than just parade though silently in black!"Me too, they could really make this a memorable and fantastic ending to the mini series. I hope they pull it off, the ending for me is one of the factors that makes or breaks a good movie or show in my opinion Do you find this valuable? |

"I have to admit having six angels of death to come and get you, could be good or bad."But won't there only be 4 angels of death - since Anne of Cleves and Katherine Parr were still living at the time of Henry's passing? Do you find this valuable? |

depends on how they want to pull it off, this is how the costume designer described the last scene"How did you dress the final scenes that end the season and the show? I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already but the "final scene" of the Tudors reminds me a bit of the Masterpiece Theatre version of I Claudius. When Claudius is nearing his end he is visited by friends and foes of the past. Some of the visitors are surprised at his success as emperor while others are still putting him down. Has anyone else watched this?

His mother talks about that his nose is still running and Caliguila (sp?) said he was surprised to find out when he died that he wasn't a god. Augustus tells him well done. Man, was that ever a good series! Wonderful actors, wonderful suspense! Do you find this valuable? |

I used to watch it everytime Masterpiece Theatre aired it - and yes, you're absolutely right, Henry's final scene sounds very similar to Claudius' death scene. Do you remember John Hurt (Caligula) admitting to Claudius that he realized he wasn't a "God" after all? I can't wait to see all of Henry's wives reappear. I am especially interested to hear what Anne Boelyn will have to say. (Hope they all have dialouge). Do you find this valuable? |
