unknown or little known facts
Mar 5 2010, 1:27 PM EST
I would like to start a thread of interesting, but little known facts about the Tudor era.I`ll start:According to the book; "Kings and Queens of England, A dark history" by Brenda Ralph Lewis, concerning the execution of Mary Queen of Scots......................She endured two strokes of the axe...........Her lips stirred up and down a quarter of an hour after her head was cut off. One of the executioners espied her little dog which had crept under her clothes....which could not be gotten forth with force, yet afterward would not depart from the dead corpse........but came and lay between her head and shoulders which were soaked with her blood. 6 out of 6 found this valuable. "I would like to start a thread of interesting, but little known facts about the Tudor era.The little dog was a skye terrier and it had to be dragged away and washed. It is said that it refused to eat and pined away and died soon after. Check out the Pets page here on the wiki : http://tudorswiki.sho.com/page/PETS+of+the+Tudors 2 out of 2 found this valuable. "tell us please...... "Mary`s ignoranceof the world. One day Mary overheard her Lord Chamberlain say to her lady-in-waiting, Francis Neville, as he tickled her under her chin.."My pretty *****, how dost thou?" A few minutes later Mary called for Francis to fix her farthigale and as the girl knelt to do so , Mary said "God-a Mercy, my pretty *****. When Mary explained to the deeply embarrassed Francis that she had only used the expression because she had heard the Lord Chamberlain use it, Francis replied.." My Lord Chamberlain is an idle gentleman, and we respect not that he saith or doth; but Your Majesty.........doth amaze me either in jest or earnest to be called so by you. A ***** is a wicked, misliving woman". 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Another little known fact is that the tomb that was commissioned by Henry VIII which was built, but never used, was instead given to legendary British naval commander, Horatio Nelson.

Fashion facts: (Next to Jane Seymour, my other passion is the history of fashion, lol)-Black was traditionally a reserved color, Anne Boleyn made it a fashionable color. -Katharine of Aragon is claimed to be responsible for the Spanish Fartingale apperance in England. -Of the fews records that exist when Jane Seymour was Queen, most involve fabrics, furs, and jewels. In her two years she had over 24 monogram rings made (How many 'J' or loveknot rings can you have?) -Mary I was a tiny woman, when she became Queen she began to wear the early version of 'high heels', they would become popular in England from there on out. -Elizabeth I loved unique jewels, she had a spider brooch that looked so much like a real spider that her courtiers would try to bat it off her. 8 out of 8 found this valuable.
