Actually quite the opposite. For her time, she was a very fastidious bather and took baths even when, according to her minister William Cecil, 'she didn't need to.' 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

She must have had that from her father. Henry bathed at the end of every day he had been on a hunt (which in his early reign must have been almost daily) and even had a special tub and heating system installed, so he could take a bath whenever he wanted.

Yes indeed, Henry was said to be very fastiidious and was thought to have a very sensitive nose. One of the reasons given for the unsuitability of Anne of Cleves was the "displeasant airs" the King detected whenever he was in the company of the poor lady.

It is also thought that the courtiers would have been careful about personal hygiene. They could hardly hope to influence His Majesty if they were subjecting him to unpleasant odours!!

Is that even Elizabeth? Furthermore, does it go anyway towards enlightening people about her bathing habits?
I've read that Elizabeth was quite fastidious, like her father.

It is Elizabeth, but I'm not sure how it's supposed to indicate whether she took baths or not! lol

This is one of those subjects that have become urban legend. It would be wrong to conclude that all people living in the 16th century were dirty. They did make soap and use warm water to wash. Of course there were different standards of cleanliness but even in our modern world we get that. They just didn't have indoor plumbing which meant having a bath was a big deal. They had to heat the water over a fire and bring buckets of water to fill it . We don't know for sure but it is thought Elizabeth had a bath every few weeks, maybe once a month. But in between she would have washed with a jug and basin. As was mentioned, she was as fastidious as her father. In those days they believed you could get a disease from foul odours. If you stank, the monarchs did not want you in their presence so courtiers had to be clean too.

Also some would imagine that because they wore elaborate clothing that could not easily be washed that it was dirty. In fact, they wore linen chemises close to their skin under their clothes and royalty would have changed those at least once if not more than once a day. Those chemises were sanitized by boiling in lye and their outer clothing was changed several times a day and were aired in between. [source: "The Tudor Housewife" by Alison Sim]

Read "Elizabeth"s London " by Liza Picard. It gives you a good look into how 16th Century people (including Elizabeth) lived.

Then we're all wierd! LOL. I've been into the Tudors for decades & now am aware of how many share my interest (since I've been a part of this wiki).
They're just so fascinating & when you see how much has been written & portrayed about them, you'll see you're in very good company!

Absolutely! And if you're weird, I might be certifiably insane, LOL. In other words, you are in good company.
