The history of the Wiki

I'm wondering about the history of this Wiki. How did it begin? Who started it? I know that when I joined in early Jan., I received a welcome message from I believe the originator of the Wiki, but I don't think I've ever seen her on the board. Is she still active? And how did Wet Paint get into it? Did someone purchase the software? Showtime, perhaps? Is Showtime involved at all? And how did the moderators get to be moderators? Were they members first and then were asked to be moderators by someone or applied for the job? Or were they brought in specifically to be moderators?Inquiring minds wanna know! 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

"That was kind of machine-gun style of questioning on my part, wasn't it. =D"No, that was tame compared to a lot of the places my mind goes when I want to know something! The thing is, we are interested, and as for me I am STARVED for intelligent conversation with people who share my interests!!! P.S. (: Do you find this valuable? |

Or were they brought in specifically to be moderators?Patty - the creator and sugarboots, the original moderator are both with wetpaint which is the company that produced the application we are using. Here is a quote from them as to how it came about : "The idea behind Wetpaint came to us when one of our friends was diagnosed with cancer. After the initial shock wore off, he did what most of us would do; he went online to learn everything he could about the disease. He found lots of facts, but not the stuff he really wanted to know—like how other people with cancer were coping. As we sat helplessly on the sidelines of our friend's dilemma, it dawned on us: why not make it easy for groups of people to share information, experiences and build social communities around anything they want? ...... Founded in 2005—and backed by Trinity Ventures, Frazier Technology Ventures, Accel Partners, and DAG Ventures —Wetpaint is headquartered in Seattle's historic Pioneer Square" When Showtime was promoting the "new" series of "The Tudors" ....they knew the importance of the net as a tool to get the word out so not only did they add it to their own site & forums but also decided to use the wiki idea which wetpaint was using on other TV shows. So this is "the official" Tudors wiki sanctioned by Showtime. (contd...) Do you find this valuable? |

sugarboots is very busy as she is the moderator for several other wikis...some of which are much much larger than this one. I joined over a year ago and enjoyed using the site very much. I have a background in computers and I am astounded at how easy it is to make a website without the tedious part of writing code. We have come a long way since the 80's! Anyway, the wiki had some issues with some gremlins who were tampering with the site which I alerted Patty & sugarboots to and eventually they made me a mod to help out. SInce then ...the other mods have been fans who also did a lot of work on building pages and being very helpful and as the wiki grew and we needed more help, they were made mods and agreed to volunteer their time.

"Who own's the award of the largest?"The "True Blood" wiki has over 12,000 members and it started in summer of last year so thats in just 6 months, L Word over 10,000. CSI over 8,000, The Terminator; Sarah Connor Chronicles over 6,000, Amazing race nearly 6,000.......and we have 2200. Puts things in perspective eh? Do you find this valuable? |

"So it sounds like Showtime purchased the Wetpaint software as a means of publicizing the show, then some Wetpaint employees actually started to Wiki, but since then it's mostly been turned over to the fans under the leadership of you, MsSquirrly and SemperE? Do you find this valuable? |

Patty & sugarboots still keep contact with us. Do you find this valuable? |

I have to give a lot of respect to MsSquirrly. As my Sgt. once said, “Soldiers aren't happy until they are given opportunities to complain!" Time after time I have watch you put out fires and redirect problems, with out incurring the wrath of a P!$$D off wiki member. You handle these with couth and diplomacy, that most politicians don't posses! Thank you for being a wonderful Den Mother!

That's a great way of summing up my opinions as well. I want to thank all the moderators and the members for making this such a great and informative place to be. This wiki has been a great place to refresh some knowledge as well as a great place to learn a lot of new Tudor knowledge. This is an excellent website, and I look forward to seeing it grow. Thanks hrm elizabeth ...and thekombatbarbie...I can't say I haven't incurred the wrath of a couple of wiki members but thats the nature of the job. I make mistakes too.Anyway, this is a thread that's a year old and I noticed the number of members was then at 2200 and soon we will hit 4000! Woo hoo Do you find this valuable? |
