Mad hatters

What kind of headpiece do you think you'd like to wear at Court? Do you favor bands, veils, coronets, feathers, or lots of rocks? What colors? How would you wear your hair? Don't forget the sumptuary laws...you don't want to get arrested! Do you find this valuable?

I actually prefer the French hoods; I think it is because it is like a cross between a crown and a hat, and I love hats! I wouldn't want to wear a crown or any other metal, I think it would hurt my head after a while. Just enough of my hair would be shown in a French hood, and it would be like a hat, too. :-) I would like it to be green, but probably blue so it would match my eyes.

I would have loved one of the big hats with the feathers and velvet. Something that matched a dress. Do you find this valuable?

http://tudorswiki.sho.com/page/The+Tudors+Costumes+%3A+Women%27s+Dress

There are some great examples of women's head-dresses (the right word?) on the page above.

I would definitely go with the Coif under the Sumptuary Laws; but if I had my choice I might be able to wing a snood bad with a small french hood. Hats are always a good choice in rainy weather!

I am not much of a hat person...I have a small head LOL. plus I hate hat hair when you take em off. So I would say the wreaths or diadems seem like they would enhance your hair. Do you find this valuable?

I would love to go to one of those English Teas you see where they are all done up in their hats. I think they look so cool! Do you find this valuable?

if I were to look towards the 16th century style, definitely the French hood; it shows the hair and flatters the face.

Well, what's stopping you? Do your own tea. Wear your prettiest hat. Invite your best friends. If the "Red Hat Society" (a bunch of older women who want to act wild) can get away with it, why can't you?

i don't think I would throw one but I should look for one to go to. Maybe I will take a trip to England and crash a tea! LOL...They would know I don't belong. I would be eating the wrong things with my hands and mixing my tea wrong or something. I am not what one would necessarily call a "Lady". ;o) I did go to High Tea once. I use to live in Victoria and the Empress Hotel (where the Queen stays when she goes to Vancouver island) has one I think every Sunday. That was really cool to be at. One day I am going to travel all over England, Ireland and Scotland. I would love to live there one day. Do you find this valuable?

Can I go with you? You sound like you would be a blast. We can have a fake tea like in the Blues Brothers (one of my favorite movies) - where Dan akroyd holds out his mega glass and the waiter says, "water glass, sir", and John Belushi says "I want your wimmiin...give me your wimmin, I want the leetle girl." Seriously , why can't you do a tea? I'd go! What hat would you wear? Dare you to wear a crown!

Don't you have to be a countess to wear a diadem or something? Can you see a bunch of us sitting in Tudor jail pleading we were just trying on Anne's chapeaux?

How about adding some fishnet hose with matching snood and nowadays you can buy SPANX wherever you want to hold it in. Twenty first century corset lol

Well Karen the fishnets were a given....maybe a snood with the crown...I know it doesn't really go with the tea but seems to work with the outfit.

I'd say a Bag Snood or a French Hood/Snood. I'm not much of a hat person, so something like a snood would work well for me. Do you find this valuable?

I think its a shame that hats have gone out of style in "society". If you wear one, people look at you like you are eccentric or trying to prove something. The bag snoods are awesome. THe only people who wear nets are cafeteria ladies and other people hidden in sanitary places, and they wear them smashing their hair down.

I know I am obsessed with Tudor clothes and etc., but they are so beautiful. I mourn the general lack of beauty out on the streets, and I even hate to see celebs dressed in sweat pants, etc., because by golly they make a fortune and I want them to give me something lovely to see.

I’m quite fond of the hair ornaments that Anita Briem’s Jane wears. They are so pretty. If I could I would wear similar accessories, like a diadem, with my hair left down.

Otherwise, call me old fashioned, but I am quite fond of the Gable hood. I like their complexity and show-off how they hide your hair if you’re having a bad hair day lol. I would like one similar to Anne B’s in that slightly more modern version of Hans Holbein’s portrait. I don’t know who painted it and its really annoying me now.
