Catherine Parr's pregnancy
Jan 17 2009, 4:12 AM EST
Catherine Parr had one child, a daughter named Anne with Thomas Seymour. However Cate had been married three times before, we know why she and Henry didn't produce any children, but is there any explanation why she didn't have any children during her first two marriages? I've always found that odd.

"LNOR or any of the Historians who know more about Ms Parr. Who other than Henry were her other husbands. What happened to them ? Was she always widowed. How long was she married to the King when he died "funrod, Catherine was married four times and was widowed a total of three. This list with dates they've been married I've copy and pasted from her character page on the wiki: (1st Husband) Edward Borough, 2nd Baron Borough of Gainsborough (1529 - 1533) (2nd Husband) John Neville, 3rd Baron Latymer of Snape (1534 - 1543) (3rd Husband) King Henry VIII (1543 - 1547) (4th Husband) Sir Thomas Seymour, Lord High Admiral (1547 - 1548) The traditional biographies of Catherine have usual written that her first who marriages were to men who were much older than her and died of old age (like her match to Henry). Since Catherine lost her father Lord Parr at a young age her mother probably needed to find husbands for her two daughters in order to free up expenses which is probably why Lady Parr might not have been too picky to choose suitors for Catherine who were looking for a wife who was more of a nurse maid / baby sitter than a traditional wife and mother. Although some believe that Catherine's first husband might actually have been closer in age to her since there is confusion on which Lord Bourough Catherine married. Most primary source documents just state Lord Bourough and most historians assume it was Edward Bourough who was much older than Catherine, but it's possible she might have actually have been married to his son who was the third Lord Bourough and closer to Catherine's age. Either way both these men died of natural causes so it is confusing in the absence of dependable primary sources to get straight which Bourough was Catherine's first husband. LNor19 - I thought Catherine and Thomas' daughter's name was Mary Seymour? Atleast that's what I've usually read it as being. Do you find this valuable? |

I know the first and third one were too old and impotent, but the second marriage lasted for 13yrs and died of an illness.

It was said though that her first marriage was not a happy one so perhaps they did not; see each other much, or sleep with each other or he slepth with a mistress, or he was away a great deal?? Or it just did not happen.

In one of Catherine's biographys it is suggested that it is possible she may have suffered at least one miscarriage during her first marriage. It also stated that Catherine was married to the younger Lord Borough.
