Thank you. At last, I've come to a very good group of people interested in the same theings with regard not only the Tudor Dynasty, but to their descendants as well.

Thorned_rose84: About a year ago I read a book about Catherine Howard (i forget if it was The Boleyn Inheritance by Phillippa Gregory, or The King's Rose by Alissa Libby. Both are good and offer polar opposite characterizations of the young queen). When I read the part about Henry calling Catherine his "rose without a thorn", I decided I would've been known as just the opposite, a thorned rose.84 stands for 1984, the year I was born :) 2 out of 2 found this valuable. I try to read everything Tudor-related, even if it seems like a dud. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

The Katharine in my user name represents Katharine of Aragon (this is one of the ways she spelled it). Katharine used to sign her name as Katharine the Quene and it was her signature on the last letter she wrote to Henry.

Thank you! That is something most people don't know. And I realize about "Katharine the Queen" as she still prayed for his immoratal soul until the day she died in 1536. She wouldn't accept Queen Dowager, and Anne was safe as long as she was alive. After that we all know what happened to the innocent Anne, meaning the charges that were brought against her that led to her execution.

Katharine was definitely a VERY strong person. She was treated quite unfairly, and her daughter Mary was in the in the right order in the Henry's "Act of Supremacy." Henry had based his claim in the same Chapter in Leviticus that also said if one did not go to church on the Sabbbath, they should be stoned to death. We now live under Jesus Christ and the New Testament, and Katharined was right if she was using Mark 10 as her basis. I loved it when she went into court and and said that she appealed to the Pope, But then the Reformation in England might never have happened. Althought something else might have come along to help this cause as well. We cannot be held to a monocuase. The son Edward, was, in those days, the natural choice to become the first heir, but Mary had her place in line, and then Elizabeth at 25. Do you believ that the "Act of Supremacy" should have been altered, thus Mary Queen of Scots to be nex? . It was with Sir William Cecil that Elizabeth remained in that "Act,' among many other things. My feeling are mixed with Ka

"My name has evolved over the years. How it started was first with the problem I had with my car. You are probably thinking....car? LOL See I found that my car which was an automatic was jumping gears so I took it into the mechanics and waited while they looked at it. Finally the mechanic came out and asked me if I had a lot of squirrels around my home. I looked at him puzzled and said...."um yes....why"? He held up a nut and said...."I found this in your engine". It seemed some busy little squirrel had decided to hide his nut in my gear box. I took the nut with me after we had a good laugh and headed home and put it on my desk.OMG That is so fantastically random! On Topic: My username is simply my middle name, slightly manipulated to take on a double meaning. I would have done something with my first name, however, its' a very dull first name (Hannah), that you can do nothing with, 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I like Hannah! But I like Elliemental as well. I ave never answered on this, so here I go. Well, King Henry VIII. I believe it's very obvious. He is one of my heroes since childhood and has always been my username and email account, even before "The Tudors". Beside he and I are very alike and last but not least, I have played him in a few occasions. 3 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I'm curious, how are you and Henry alike?Well, we have a character that is quite alike and things that happened in our lifes. And no to the last one, that's quite random. I have not been married yet and probably will not, so of course no. And you may see it as you want, he has never divorced from two wifes neither killed two, their marriages were never lawful, as I see it and the church sees it. What qualities? Well he was a really great man and monarch, that's it! He accomplished so much throughout his reign. He has always been fair whenever he could, he has been loyal (not to his wifes obviously) he was giving and helpful. He was full of good spirits and charms and spread them everywhere, everyone admired him in his reign even when he did things that might not be too great, most of his people still admired him. Not to speak of his talents, in sports, arts, languages, astronomy, science, etc. His intelligence. A hero is someone you look up to, someone that did things you could only dream of to achieve, and that is Henry VIII. for me, a great idol and hero. 5 out of 10 found this valuable. Do you? |

"And you may see it as you want, he has never divorced from two wifes neither killed two, their marriages were never lawful, as I see it and the church sees it.I don't buy into any of the legal quibblings regarding the status of Henry's marriages. That is all sophists' arguments, mumbo jumbo and rationalization based on agenda, in Henry''s day as well as our own. He took these women as his wives, in ceremonies with witnesses and , by the religion of the culture, before God. The only one that may not have been completely legitimate was the one to Anne of Cleves, if he did not consumate it. For the other five he was married. He said the vows, he treated them as his wives, his wives believed themselves to be married to him. That is what makes it legal and binding and in all cultural ways a marriage. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
