"boy, I sure hope their right. And I wish they would see some of the wiki, because they were the impetus that got us together. I must say they would be surprised at how many well informed and creative individuals are here. They are missing out on the real creative influence they initiated. Yes, I got into it for the costumes, but I am along time soap fan, so I was so excited when I heard about it. Sure, they played up the sex, and scandel, but they didn't have a hard task. I'm sure it was really like that. Henry did what he wanted, and he loved sex. He's a powerful man, that's what they do. Nothing has changed in that department. And let's face it, without 24 houe newscycles and CNN, the gossip must have been rampent. What else could they do? Most of them were illiterate, and they only read the bible and classics if they could read.
Nothing here to justify. I think Michael Hirst's profuction is a feast for the eye, fantastic acting by the cast, and a fresh interesting view of the period. I found it very educational despite some historical inaccuracies, and JRM not looking like Henry. Henry changed the world of religion, politics, and monarchy, which is still relevant today.Frankly, I was unaware of the importance Thomas More had as a lawyer, and I was a philosophy major at an Ivy league college. Huge gap in my education, but Hirst set me straight, as did that gorgeous Jeremy Northam hunk of talent!"
yEAH I think Jeremy is much more sexy and loveable than JRM because he has that innocent little-boy look and his sex appeal is more subtle. You get the idea that if he wanted you, it would be for more than a one-nighter. Nice to be with someone who could hold an intelligent conversation instead of hufffing and blowing, losing his temper or looking out of the corner of his eye at another woman. lol

"I think Semper Eadem or McSquirrly said they are probably going to do another series, I think about Elizabeth. So we will have something to look forward to."
well Hirst did make some comments about continuing the saga but since then it has been confirmed that the next project for the creative team of the Tudors is "Camelot" which I am pretty psyched about. But we still have seasons 3 and 4 of the Tudors which will handle the next 4 wives - 2 per season - to look forward to first!

"this was my first Tudor book, that started my fascination with Henry and his wives. I found it a marvelous read, and have been reading ever since. When The Tudors came out, I have been in heaven, even though there are historical inaccuracies. I am quite surprised that they do not really portray Mary Boleyn in George's fashion, or that Will Somers is excluded as a character. I also loved her book on Mary Q of Scots, and recommend them both.
She really shows Henry's progression, as a young lusty man, of numerous talents, who slowly degenerates into a divided and tortured monster. He was a genius though, and I think Anne Boleyn was as well, whch really explains why Elizabeth was so intellectually gifted. It also points out why she is so devoted to never marrying, or having children."
A long time since this post. I finally edited it. I haven't been with my friends on the wiki in a long time. There is a vacuum left in my heart, which is now only replaced with facebook social networking. so not the same.
However... They did use Will Somers, not enough, as he was so key, and I was satisfied with the conclusion, although it seemed to me that the last two marriages seemed rushed.
Lady Rochford is developed well, as so little is known about her.
I still want someone to do Mary Q. It is a natural mini series, as so much is written about her, so much romance, so much tragedy, and a legend that never dies. I am a part of the Mary Stuart yahoo group, which is largely members who are historians and authors. They are still going through her life with a fine tooth comb. Her legendary beauty, and royal blood is still a subject for today's scholars. And of course, like KOA a true Catholic Martyr. Someone NEEDS to write the mini series! Ms Squirrly are you still with us?

Isn't there already enough about Elizabeth out there. Someone should write books and biographies about the less known persons, rather than about those that everyone knows. Like...George Boleyn :-P There is pretty little known about the man.

But besides that I adore Margaret George and her books!

"HOORAY for Mary Queen of Scots fans. I've preached these two websites before: www.abe.com, and www.alibris.com. They are two booksellers you can get anything from, even out of print books, for low, low prices. You can search by price point and the sites tell you what condition the books are in. I have bought a lot of ex-library editions, which have nice, reinforced hard covers and last well. I can't recoomend these sites too much, without them I would not be able to indulge in my book addiction. Is anyone out here interested in learning more about the Queen of Scots? There is a wiki about her, but I have to say the people are not as astute as you are. I need somebody to be my Queen of Scots friend....karen"
this is a very delayed answer Karen. I am in the Yahoo group www.marie-stuart.co.uk which is marvelous. We are a small group, international, and all but me, are very very fine historians. Many are authors of Marie history, and the moderator Bill could not be nicer. We have really come along under his guidance, and if you want to know ANYTHING about Mary S these guys know through first hand historical research. Yet E is very nice and very funny, and Mary S lives again through this menagerie. Do take a look.

"Tudor crazy - I love Margaret George’s book too although it feels like it has been a century since I last read it. Haven’t they re-released it? I could have sworn I read that somewhere.

Throughout history, fools have had the singular privilege to reflect the policies and beliefs of the court in an uncensored manner. I personally think Wil Somers tells Henry’s story better than any court gossip or official state papers ever could. I have often thought that someone should write a book about the Renaissance from ever fool's perspective. Wouldn't that be an interesting read?
"
and that wish has been fulfilled by our wonderful Michael Hirst. As you know, The Borgias are coming in January 2011, and we will be stunned!

"Yes, I think she loved Bothwell. She was a loving person with a lot of love to give and she gave it often to the wrong people. She poured her heart out in letters, and I don't think she made up what she felt when she wrote him. She looked to him as a hero, and her protector, the only one who had the guts to back her up. Agree with you about the site. Check out The Mary Stuart Society. Still, nowhere near as cool as this wiki. I'd love to go on endlessly about her, but I don't know that it would be appropriate for this wiki (see a new thread I just started on Tudors/Stuarts). Wiki fans are more focused on the show and the Henry VIII reign, understandably, Perhaps somebody will respond in the positive/negative.Do you have any suggestions on how we could enjoy a special time and place dedicated to her? I don't have time/talent to put together pages, too busy working and reading and bringing my work home with me. It would be so great if some of us could meet for coffee once a week! But this is definitely the next best thing!"
I am answering you years later about Marie Scots yahoo group, and highly recommend them now as we have come a long way. However it lacks the cohesive wiki format which is fine, as it is far more high browed and intimate. These folks know Marie, and the new moderator is great.

Hi Jan, good to see you. Karen hasn't been active on the wiki since August 2009. The last I heard from her, she said she had some health issues and not enough time to spend on here so sadly she hasn't been back.

I think that as the series has ended in the US, many fans have moved on to other things which is natural. There is still a small core group here though.
