  • CONFIDANTES We know that the queens had their (religious) confessors for spiritual guidance, but I wonder who, if anyone, they could trust as a true and loyal friend - someone to confide in - especially when things with Henry were rough. With the court politics, is it unlikely that a lady-in-waiting could be a faithful friend? Would heartfelt feelings expressed in loneliness be reported back to the King or whispered in bedrooms? If you were queen, who would you choose to be your second self?

  • Ladies in Waiting I just started a new book, "Ladies in Waiting" (From the Tudors to the Present Day) by Anne Somerset. It's a very interesting account of some of the key players in THe Tudors and subsequent reigns. It gives a fresh perspective to what went on behind the scenes, refers to eye-witness accounts by the ladies, their competitions and a picture of what went on with the families vying for positons of favor by lobbying for their daughters to be accepted into the courts of queens and other nobles. It can be purchased through abe.com booksellers and, of course, you can get used books there for a fraction of what you'd pay elsewhere. A quick, interesting and very enjoyable read, I think many of our members would love to add it to your collections.

  • COURT of the King The King's Court as an entity was not only the Seat of Government but also the Royal Household - a concept which symbolized the pre-eminence of the Monarch.

  • Ladies to her Majesty The episode where AB and her ladies go out to give money to the poor, the ladies outfits and headress's remind me of a First Holy Communion Dress.
I remember being a young child, all of us girls walking with the beaitful dress's and different head dressings. Beautiful. It is no wonder it won an Emmy.

Now a question. Did ALL of the ladies to KOA leave with her or any stay to be a lady to AB ?
