Post on Katherine of Aragon's haircolor a bit confusing because....
I think there is no dispute as to the color of Katherine of Aragon's actual hair color (though in some paintings when she was older, it does look darker, as do many royal paintings made later in their years, perhaps to cover the actual age and grays? Not an art historian, so just a guess). However, that post is slightly confusing. By calling her great-grandmother "Katherine of Lancaster" instead of "Catalina of Lancaster" and focusing on her blonde-red hair makes it easy to think that it is a reference to Dutchess Katherine Swynford, John of Guant's third wife and mother of the Beauforts. She was well-known as his mistress while he was married to Costanza of Castile, which was when the Beauforts were born, and is well remembered for her red hair. John of Guant was a blonde (again, late in life painted with dark hair), but Costanza was known for her very dark hair. Catalina was their only surviving child, and when Costanza died he married Katherine, and the pope and King Richard II ligitimated their children. When Henry IV became King, he ammended it to state that while they were legitimate now and noble, they could not rule. Side note, in Season 4 when Surrey is talking to Suffolk about how Richard II was starved to death in Pontefract while they were visiting that castle, his actual cause of death is still questioned, but what is an interesting is that the constable of Pontefract was none other then Thomas Swynford, Katherine Swnford's eldest son, who was the step-brother to the now King Henry IV. Coincidence?

Tudors-Anne and Class Conflict
I was contemplating why I've reacted to Anne Boleyn's conflict with Katherine of Aragon as I did and realized that my own deep rooted irritation at privileged classes fueled my feelings to a degree. Anne was somewhat high born, but she was at the low end of upper class... she wasn't even entitled to be called Lady until she and her sister enchanted the King. Katherine of Aragon was born a royal princess, no doubt trained from babyhood to be a queen consort. On the show she radiated that royal presence and while I admired her, I could not relate to her. So even while I disapproved of Anne in two key scenes -- when Katherine confronts her about the necklace, and when she says she'd rather see Katherine hanged than acknowledge her as mistress -- I "understood" her and despite myself, found myself rooting for her, at least to a degree. The show might not have intended it, Anne if she was really in those situations might not have intended it that way, but I saw the defiance and triumph of the relatively "ordinary" person over someone assumed to better than almost everyone else from the moment of her birth. "I am no *****, your majesty." "I care nothing for Katherine." Anne seems to be saying "She's no better than me" and part of me always rejoices when someone lower-born declares him or herself equal to, or better than, the high-born. I wonder if anyone else reacted to Anne that way, and if that in part explains her popularity.

Sing a Song of Sixpence Analysis
I have been researching Elizabeth of York lately and have stumbled upon the nursery rhyme Sing a Song of Sixpence. Lyrics Posted Below:
Sing a song of sixpence, A pocket full of rye. Four and twenty blackbirds, Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened, The birds began to sing, Wasn't that a dainty dish, To set before the king?
The king was in his counting house, Counting out his money; The queen was in the parlour, Eating bread and honey.
The maid was in the garden, Hanging out the clothes; When down came the blackbird And pecked off her nose.
In some versions there is an additional verse:
They send for the king's doctor, who sewed it on again; He sewed it on so neatly, the seam was never seen.
or
There was such a commotion, that the little Jenny wren; Flew down into the garden, and put it back again.
Some say this song is about the hours of the day, the king being the sun and the queen the moon and the blackbirds the 24 hours of the day. Others say that the king is Henry VII who is known to be careful with his money so he is counting in the counting house and that the queen is Elizabeth of York. But another theory is that the king is Henry VIII, the queen is Katherine of Aragon, and the maid is Anne Boleyn. I think the last theory is the best. The four and twenty blackbirds could be tied to the Reformation and the printing of the bible in English with twenty four letters. Maybe the king counting his money in the counting house could mean Henry VIII with the wealth he gathered after the dissolution of the monasteries. Maybe the queen eating milk and honey in the parlour could be a jest at KOA because she was a bit overweight after her many failed pregnancies. The bird clipping off Anne Boleyn's nose symbolizing her being beheaded? What do you think?

Anne Baa-leyn~Twisted History
This isn't the typical fan art but I wanted to take a more humorous look at history. Poor Anne.
