    Viva Henry VIII Artist: Coldplay
    Song: Viva La Vida

I know I'm not the first person inspired to create a Tudors video to this song, but I couldn't resist!

  • In His Majesty's defence I know that people love hating on Henry these days...what with the fact that he killed two of his wives and all...but I just can't help feeling that he was a far more complex man than the villain that most people believe he is nowadays. One point that I think is extremely important for people to remember about Henry is that in his time life and death just were the stakes that people played with. Particularily people in power or those who went against them. So although for us in our more enlightened state it seems barbaric for Henry to have executed two of his wives, for him it was the proper and fitting end for two people who had in his eyes betrayed him. I do believe that he probably let his emotions get the best of him in this situation....but that does not make him a monster. It makes him human and flawed. Unfortunately for him with the position he was in it meant he did real damage when he took his vengeance on those he perceived as traitors.

Sorry I know this isn't supposed to be a serious thread but I just had to say that.

  • Henry: A Good Article Examining his Good AND Bad Achievements. im an eager amateur Henry VIII historian and regular lurker on these forums but first time poster. i guess its taken me a while to absorb the information to put it into something worth posting. I recently came across an article I had handwritten a year ago and have thus typed it up and decided to post it on my website and obviously its one thing having facebook friends and twitter people read it, but i'd like some people with an actual understanding of the man to discuss. first of all heres the essay broken down into sections exploring his reputation http://bit.ly/bHh353

to add on to that, i feel its time to start a discussion. if it has been done before my apologies, its late and my brain is fried. but as i explore in the above article, was Henry really pure evil and a despotic tyrant beyond saving as seems to be the general consensus. was he not just a well-meaningful man who lost his way as his life progressed? does personal failures undo all the good he did in implementing such things as state education, advancing the english language, the renaissance and so on? i feel a debate coming on.

  • KoA as offical Spanish Ambassador. I've always found it very interesting that during 1507 when the post of Spanish ambassador to England was vacant Katherine of Aragon was appointed as her father's ambassador - Henry VII and his councillers expected her to fail and be a pushover, but Isabella's daughter certainly proved them wrong :D

This post was usually reserved for a man - indeed I've never heard of another offical female ambassador at this time. Which, imo, just makes KoA more awesome and forward in terms of her opinions on the abilities of women (her advocation for women's education is another example)

My qustion is this - WERE there any other femal ambassadors near this point? And had there been previously?

  • KOA' critiscms of the Catholic Church While KOA was very devoted to her Roman Catholic faith, in private she was very vocal about thing such as fake relics and the emphisis of Sains - ironically she was actually painted as two Saints during her teenage years - does anyone know in extra information about this, such as quotes etc.?

  • Something I Noticed When Rewatching Season 1... It probably means nothing, my father thinks it is just Hirst running out of lines, but in Season 1, Episode 3 (or maybe 4, I was running them back to back) Catherine of Aragon is telling Henry about the dream she had about him returning to her and that he said, 'all will be well, and all shall be well' and then in Season 4, Episode 4, Mary, in her speech to the Northern subjects, says the exact same words.

We know there has been a ton of Anne Boleyn reminders (Catherine H saying she was the 'most happy' is just one that comes to the top of my head) and to me at least, it is a little reminder of the fact that Mary is Catherine of Aragon's daughter... did you see the way Henry was looking at Mary when she gave that speech.. there was something there... at first I though it was him being proud (or the sun was slightly getting in his eyes) but know that I have rewatched it (I haven't payed that much attention to COA's lines like that before) I feel there could be some connection, not massive but just a reminder.

I am probably reading way to much into this but I was interested to here your thoughts.

  • The last days of Henry VIII I have always wondered since a girl in High School about the final days of Henry VIII.
It seems that I can find very little to appease my curiosity about Henry's last days. I know
where he died. When. Possibly how he died. Some of the people with him when he died. But did
Henry know he was dying? Did he get to say a final goodbye to KP? Goodbye to his kids? IF so then
WHAT did he say to them all. And do you believe the dogs really licked Henry's blood from the floor?
OR was that an old 'tale' told was it really true????

  • Question from the SHOWTIME message boards for British fans I haveposted a really good question for British Tudor fans from the SHOWTIME message board.

Please answer this if you wish It is a really good question from someone from the states

realize my question has more to do with the first two seasons, but I figured it would be more likely to be answered here.
My mother and I want to know what students in Britain are taught in school about Anne Boleyn. Are you taught that she was mightily wronged? Or are you taught the opposite or something else? Also, it seems that in the States there is very poor judgement of Henry, but what are Britain students taught in school about him?
    THANKS SO MUCH

  • Silly Question Hi all, I just have a silly little question, probably doesn't amount to much, but does anyone know, or remember if Henry ever said "you must do as you like" to any of his wives other than KH. Just wondering if too much freedom with little consequences was implied?

  • Does the King have any REAL friends left I often think back to Season 1 where Henry was the young playboy. It seemed to me he had real friends who were not afraid to tease him, joke with him give him advice (Thomas Moore) and even go against his wishes (Brandon marring Henrys sister. As Henry has gotten older and learned to wield even more power his real friends have been falling away. I remember a scene with Moore when he and Henry are arguing, Moore starts to say "Harry..." Henry cuts him off and tells him "the time for Harry is over". As for his good friend Brandon, when was the last time he called the king Henry? It's always your Majesty, to me it looks like their friendship is not the same, maybe it could never be the same after what Henry made Brandon do in season 3 to the Northern "traitors" The king has surrounded himself with lackeys and yes men, I wonder if he even know it. Has he convinced himself so well that since he is only answerable to God he is never wrong, and therefore should never be contradicted.

  • Why did Mary not marry in Henry VIII lifetime I wonder why as Henry got older he never thought to marry off his eldest daughter. When she was young there seemed to be a different bethrodal (sp?) every episode. Even if Henry couldn't use her as a bargaining pawn as it were, would he not want to see her happy. Also if she married and had sons would that not further cement the Tudor dynasty in case Edward dies without children. I wonder what was Henry thinking in this case, you'd think he would want happy marriages for his children after he had so many "unfortunate accidents"

  • Henry VIII the Rapist Does it bother anyone else that in some productions they portray Henry as a rapist? I refer to the 2008 version of The Other Boleyn Girl where Henry rapes Anne B (played by Natalie Portman) and again in the 200.3 version of Henry VIII Henry rapes Anne B (played by Helena Bonham Carter). In both cases the directors/writers chose Anne B to be the victim, I have to wonder what was behind this, were they trying to portray her as a pushy "fishwife" who didn't know her place and therefore deserved the rape. I for one do not think it ever happened based on what I've read, and those scenes always bother me.

  • Henry "handles" his wives Has anyone noticed that when Henry grasps his wife's hand it's not an altogether happy experience? When watching the scene with Henry and AOC, they are talking and everything is nice, nice till she mentions she likes her freedom, Henry grasps her hand and asks her to bed. This made me think of other instances, in season 1 with KOA he grasps her hand when she is trying to talk politics with him, and he reminds her that she is just his wife/Queen. I think there is a moment with Anne B as well where again to exerts his authority he grasps her hand. I'll have to watch again to see if he does the same with Jane. If it were me as soon as he took hold of my hand and started to speak in hushed tones I'd be worried.
