We wait fifty years... ...for a Catherine of Aragon biography - and now TWO come along at once!

If you haven't already heard Julia Fox and Giles Tremlett are publishing biographies on my favourite Queen - the former will come out next year, and the latter this October!

Can't wait! I'm so glad that there is finally going to be a Bio. on Katherine! The last British one being published in the '60s, and is now out of print.

I mean there have been so many Anne Boleyn books over the past few years alone - I've nothing against that, I own several myself, but it's nice for focus to be on one of the other wives for once. Especially Katherine, who was a fascinating woman whose achievements are little known and overlooked.

Headress? Never seen one like it before. I've never seen a headress like the one Catherine of Aragon wears in this pciture. Does anyone know anything about it? Or even what it's called?

I don't think it's a round hood - though KOA was very fond of them in her youth.

Any purpose? When COA was 14/15 there was 2 portraits painted of her (As Mary Magdalene and as The Virgin Mary);

It seems to me unusual that two portraits of her would be painted of her in such short a time without any purpose. Especially as her sisters Maria, Juana, Isabella, and her brother Juan where never painted while still in Spain, and especially since there was already a portrait of her painted 3 years prior (Even though seem people still believe it Juana, it seems unlikely due to the age and colouring of the Infanta, plus the rose she is holding).

So I was wondering, does anyone know why these portraits were painted? Or if you don't any theories?
