Music in Season 1
I was just wondering if anyone knew what the name of the song that was played during the scene that Sir William Compton pursues Thomas Tallis (in episode 5 of season 1), where Thomas runs into Sir Compton in a hallway, and Sir Compton says "Say yes... say yes", etc? I really like the song, and I would like to know what it is, so I can look it up :)

Spem in alium
For those who don't know, "Spem in alium", the famous 40-part motet by Tallis, is heard during Anne Boleyn's death scene, in the last episode of the 2nd season. Roughly 40 years before it was composed, that's true. Much of the music heard in the series is in fact Elizabethan music.
BTW, Smeaton playing a four string violin in 1536 is plain ridiculous. The first examples weren't seen in England till the 1560s or later. Viols were much more popular then, but Smeaton was better known as a lutenist.

Now we are into the 4th season and look back on all those characters who just simply went missing from the show into some strange Bermuda Triangle, when we know some of them played major roles in actual history (not the ones we know what happened to them).Which one do you miss the most and why?

This is GREAT music ... I really love the Wolsey commits suicide...but it is because that score that was playing was perfect for the love scene in the woods with Anne and Henry... very hot scene LOL

Tallis' music in The Tudors
This is a list of the Tallis compositions I've heard in Season One, Episodes 1-7.
~~~ Episode 3: the Tallis Ordinal (played by a consort, incl. Tallis at the virginal)
Episode 4: Videte Miraculum (by the choir, during Mass)
Episode 5: Salvator Mundi I--Tallis is playing it on the organ as Compton approaches him in church, and later it is heard again, sung by an unaccompanied soloist as Tallis composes in bed at Compton's side. Also heard in this episode: O Nata Lux (choir, during a service).
Episode 6: Gaude gloriosa Dei Mater (choir, the end of the envoy's stay in France).
Episode 7: Lamentations of Jeremiah I (thrice: first, by choir, as Tallis approaches Compton's grave; second, as Tallis plays it on the organ; third, by the choir at the requiem mass).
Have not yet watched Season Two (I know, I know!), but I see that more Tallis music was used. Yay! Hopefully Tallis himself will return to the series--especially since, historically, he came to the Chapel Royal during the latter years of Henry's reign.
Jerusalem
The music for the the Season 10 finale was an arrangement by Michael McGlynn of the Irish traditional song, which has UK origins, "Jerusalem". The version used was altered slightly textually from his arrangement, but there are recordings done by the Irish choir Anuna of this piece that the TV version was based on. You can find out more from the News secion of the Anuna website at www.anuna.ie and you can download Jerusalem from iTunes as recorded by Anuna. Hope this helps.
Joe Van Moyland/Thomas Tallis
Word in our little circle of Tallis fanatics in LiveJournal is that he isn't to be found in the first two eps of Season 2. My guess is that Joe left the production entirely last summer to devote his time to his band (Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong) and that no effort was made to replace him. I have been searching for a complete character list for Season 2 in vain, so have not been able to verify this. Does anybody know?
