Friendship with Mary Tudor?
I've just read a comment upon a video on youtube about Lady Mary Tudor and Thomas Cromwell. It seems that they were friends: " [...] It's based in historical fact, they shared a friendship. He gave her gifts at Christmastide, and even had a ring made for her (though the King saw it and ended up gifting it to her instead). [...] "

Cromwell - Cambridge Graduate?
In season 3, there is an episode where a heretic called Lambert (played by Corrie's Nick Tilsley) is burnt at the stake. Apparently, Cromwell is accused of being very pally with this man when they were at Cambridge together and is under suspicion of sharing his heretic views. I don't ever recall reading about Cromwell attending Cambridge University. Is this another possible historical blooper?

On this day in history...
...soon after dawn on the 28th July 1540, Thomas Cromwell was executed on Tower Hill. After his execution, "A Ballad Against Malicious Slanderers" was written by Thomas Smyth, sympathetic to Cromwell:
"Although Lord Cromwell a traitor was,
Yet dare I say the King of his grace,
Has forgiven him that great trespass,
To rail on dead men, thou art to blame,
Troll now into the way again for shame.
In that he the law has offended,
By the law he is swiftly condemned,
This mortal life full godly he ended,
Wherefore to rail thus they are to blame.
Troll etc.
For all his offences in everything,
He asked God's mercy and grace of the King,
And of the wide world for his transgressions,
Then nor no man can say nay to the same.
Troll etc."

On This Day In History
29th June, 1509: Margaret Beaufort dies at Baynard's Castle, a day after her grandson's eighteenth birthday,and a few months following the death of her beloved son, Henry Tudor. RIP Margaret Beaufort. A great, and corageous woman.
29th June, 1540: Thomas Cromwell was found guilty of sacramental heresy, and condemned to die. :(

Thomas Cromwell - the Tudors' answer to Gok Wan
This is taken from "A Brief History of the Tudor Age" by Jasper Ridley, 2002:
"Cromwell did not approve of any unconventional man who grew his hair longer than his accepted length. John Foxe, who greatly admired him, recorded an incident in his Book of Martyrs, not to show how arbitrarily Cromwell exercised his power, but in praise of his sense of propriety. Once when he was walking in the street he met a servingman who had hair hanging over his shoulders.Cromwell asked him whether his master had ordered him to wear his hair so long, or what other reason he had for doing this. When the man replied that he had made a vow not to cut his hair, Cromwell said that he would not force him to break his vow, but that he would stay in prison until he decided to do so. The man was imprisoned in the Marshalsea and not released until his master had persuaded him to cut his hair to the conventional length. "
