Mary I's Pearl - now on sale
If you have a spare $2 - $3 million, La Peregrina, the pearl that Philip gave to his queen Mary I goes on sale.
Richard Burton paid $37,000 over 40 years ago and gave it to his "queen" Elizabeth Taylor who recently passed away. It will be interesting to see who manages to scoop this little treasure.

Mary Tudor, Queen of France
RIP Mary, Queen of France/Duchess of Suffolk. She died on this day, 25th June, 1533. Sometimes, poor old Mary gets confused with a big war boat (the Mary Rose), and in the show she was written out altogether. But, anyway, she was an interesting lady on whom Henry doted.

Mary's attutibe towards Thomas Howard
I read that when Mary became Queen, she relased Thomas Howard from the Tower of London, I know he was Catholic, but does anyone know if she knew he was part of the faction to put Anne Boleyn on the throne?

On This day in 1496 Mary Tudor (Henry's Sister) was born
Mary Tudor was born on the 18th March 1496. She was the fifth child of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. She was born at Richmond Palace and was very close to her older brother Henry when they were children. In her youth she was regarded to be one of the most beautiful princesses in Europe. She was described by the Venetian Ambassador as "A Paradise - tall, slender, grey-eyed and an extreme pallor".
In 15 14 when she was 18 she married Louis XII, but Louis died less than three months later. Mary went on to marry Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk.

On this Day Mary Tudor married King Louis XII of France
Known in her youth as one of the most beautiful princesses in Europe, Mary was betrothed in December 1507 to Charles of Castile, later Holy Roman Emperor. However, changes in the political alliances of the European powers meant this wedding did not take place. Instead, Cardinal Wolsey negotiated a peace treaty with France, and on 9 October 1514, at the age of 18, Mary married its 52-year-old King Louis XII at Abbeville. One of her Maids of Honour who attended her in France was Anne Boleyn. Mary was described by the Venetian Ambassador as "a Paradise—tall, slender, grey-eyed, possessing an extreme pallor". She wore her glorious silken red-gold hair flowing loose to her waist. Despite two previous marriages, the king had no living sons and sought to produce an heir; but Louis died on 1 January 1515, less than three months after he married Mary, reputedly worn out by his exertions in the bedchamber. Their union produced no children. Following Louis's death, the new King Francis I made attempts to arrange a second marriage for the beautiful widow.
