KING HENRY VIII BOOTS - as worn by Jonathan Rhys Meyers up for auction
Hi Tudors Fans !
Fiona here from Self Help Africa,(Irish Charity No:6663; UK Charity No: 298830; we are also a non-profit 501(c) 3 organisation in the United States) Our objective is to offer long-term, sustainable solutions to eradicating poverty in rural Africa. We are currently supporting thousands of women across Africa, who are facing huge challenges on a daily basis to survive and feed their families. For more information visit www.changeherlife.org / www.selfhelpafrica.org .
We recently approached well known artists and asked them to think about what it would be like to walk in the shoes of a rural African woman for a day, and we asked a number of VIPs (and their managers!) if they would consider donating a pair of shoes that would help to get our message across to the public.
The Costume Mill in Dublin very kindly donated the black suede boots worn by JRM playing the role of King Henry VIII in The Tudors, and we are currenly looking to auction them off to the highest bidder.
You can see pictures of the boots on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/inhershoesproject . If you are not in a position to bid but would still like to support the campaign, please click on the link and like the page and also read about more of our work at www.selfhelpafrica.org .
Our In Her Shoes initiative will help us raise funds to support many more women who are desperate for our help.
Thanks for your time, and if you would like to see any more photos or place a bid, please email me at fiona.kelly@selfhelpafrica.org . :-)

neglected
I used to think COA lady-in-waiting's dress were the most neglected, everyone of her few ladies wore completely different dresses(the most beautiful was Anne's) while the other queen's seems to have 2 pair dresses for lady. Watching this pic i really believe i was right, her ladies dress were the most neglected.

Jane's "Crown"
I have been skeptic of this since the beginning when people insisted that the tiara Jane wore for her wedding was the same as the Crown worn by Anne and Mary in Season 2. It's not the same! What Jane wears is a tiara -- it does not go around in a complete circle and does not rest on top of her head, there is a separation as it goes into her hair in the back. If you really look at it -- it is not the same. DEFINITION of a tiara: A tiara is generally a semi-circular or circular band, often metal, and decorated with jewels, which is worn as a form of adornment. It is worn by women around their head or on the forehead as a circlet on very formal or high social occasions.

Any other websites.
I'm a bit of a costume junkie, so I'm looking for some websites with pictures + imformation on costumes used in The Tudors and other productions.
I already know of The Costumers Guide to Movie Costumes and Recycled Movie Costumes, but I was wondering if there's any other websites? Thanks in advance.

Lady's In Waiting
Should we vote now on whose Lady in Waiting gowns we liked the most, or wait until we get a good look at Katherine Parr's?

What?! No.
Okay, this is going to sound incredibly petty and as though I'm making a fuss out of nothing, but on the re-used costume page it says that Anne's execution gown is going to be re-used in season 4 on Lady Rochford. I know that they re-use costumes a lot but I really don't like the thought of Anne's gown in her execution scene being re-used. I know it's kind og pathetic for me to get irritated but couldn't they have used a gown that wasn't the execution one.

Designers Challenge not an easy task
With a show this scale she did a good job. It is no easy task to sew for such a large cast and extras on set.
Some of the garments aren't exactly what I would create, for a Tudor costume drama, but they are interesing to look at. I would have been happier to see less tiaras and more Tudor hoods and such, that's it for my critique. I did get the thrill of seeing what type of hat or gown would the characters wear next, some of them are very fantastically fashioned. The Tudors in history did have an ostentatiousness about their dress than made them interesing. I think that is what the designer did try to portray with each Queen was personality and she did that through, color, texture and tailoring of the gowns. Plus Henry and his courtiers she did the same effect for attitude with dress, it did work for the screen I think.

Mixing and Matching
I do like the fact that some of the gowns that the Queens wore were recycled to the lower ladies in the court or to the children like Mary and Elizabeth to wear. Then your eye isn't always drawn to the same outfit one saw a season or two ago on another leading lady in the story. It is good to see that they are mixing and matching with accessories and jewelry, a very Tudor period thing that they did in real life.

The Final Scene - SPOILER
I don't know how many of you have read all the production notes, but did you read the Costume Designer, Joan Bergin's section where she discusses the final scene? It sounds wonderful especially with the complete reincarnation of the Holbein portrait we are all familiar with, of Henry. This is what she said :
"... the greatest thrill for me was making the costume for the famous Holbein portrait that everyone knows of Henry VIII. I think everyone thought that we would deliver a version of it, but what we delivered was every exact detail, so that when he walked onto the set the gasp was very wonderful! We even made the jewellery to match the portrait. It was just wonderful.
How did you dress the final scenes that end the season and the show? The final great moment is the reappearance of Henry’s wives so I went for the whole gothic look, black and big veils. They appear in costumes that we haven’t seen before; I thought it was important to have a particular look to have them as almost a separate poster for the last 2 episodes to show him as old. He got the most wonderful makeup from an LA makeup artist to show him old. So they are kind of angels of death really, all black and white."
It will be interesting to see which portrait she used since Holbein's orginal only exists in cartoon form and all the other portraits are copies....check out this collection of portraits : http://tudorswiki.sho.com/photos/album/112478/Henry+VIII%27s+full+length+portraits
