Our new "Thinking of You" support site
Hello everyone,
Our wiki community is a close knit one. In the past few weeks, I am sure that many regulars are aware of the difficulties some of our fellow members have been going through. Elizabethtudorrose made the excellent suggestion that we start a special section of the site to share our sympathies with those that we know are going through tough times. If you check out the site pages scroll on the left-hand side, you will notice a new section labeled "Thinking of You." Here, you can leave your thoughts, support, sympathy and prayers for your fellow members.
To edit the main "Thinking of You" navigation page, click on the "easy edit" button at the top of the page and select a square to post the member's name. Once you are finished, click on the "add page" button on the left hand side. From there, name your page "[member's name] Sympathy Page" and select the "Sympathy Template" for an easy page set-up. Feel free to contact any of the mods if you are experiencing difficulty!
Best, SE

elizabethtudorrose in loving sympathy for your loss. WE ALL LOVE YOU
To All,
My deepest thanks to you for your support and love. You are all so wonderful and kind, and I love you all for taking the time to say a prayer, send positive energy, or good thoughts my way. May God Bless you all for your wonderful words. It's hard to lose the love of your life, and tho I know he's fine, there is a big hole in my world because he is gone. He was an artist and a singer, and music has been my refuge. He's been painting the sky in the evenings for us, and I know he's singing w/Pavoratti and is sending songs to me to play for him. Dad was a man that everyone loved, and the world is sorrier for the loss of him. There will never be or ever has been a Man like Dad was. Even the store owner where he got the morning paper, cried when I told him Dad had passed. He made an impact on everyone he met, and they all liked him.
Please, All, send your prayers to Fiona3, she is my sister (in law) and is suffering as I am. She is not here, and I need her badly, but I must be patient and wait for her to come. But she needs your kind words and strength as I do. Semper Eadem will be setting up a page for her as well.
Love to you and Peace, Kate, aka, ElizabethTudorRose

Your Opinion: Philippa Gregory
Philippa Gregory has written a lot of books about the Tudor era and I've recently read them. I don't like her works that much because I believe she works her own opinions into all her books. Don't get me wrong she's a fantastic storyteller but she doesn't rely so much on facts but instead tries to make the story as interesting as possible. Her book The Constant Princess for example says that Catherine of Aragon did in fact consummate her marriage to Arthur and made a deathbed promise to Arthur to say he couldn't do it, marry Henry, and become Queen of England. I don't believe she would have lied for so long and so constantly because it would interfere with her morals, as she was a very pious queen. They were both very young and were probably unable to consummate the marriage. Also in The Other Boleyn Girl she makes Anne sound very malice, jealous, and cold with nothing but ambition in her heart. I was shocked to read this because I am a very supportive AB fan. I do believe she was ambitious and did have a bad temper at times but she was loyal to the people she loved and trusted and loved and cared deeply for her daughter Elizabeth. Tell me your opinion of her writing.

On the quiz I was Anne Bolyen! That was my second choice after Elizabeth...they both were strong willed women that dont take shit from any man! I just wish I could play "the game" as well as they did!
I'm glad this page is doing well thanks everyone!

Portrayal's you did not like
"I just feel the Tudors Anne did her no justice at all. She comes off as terribly unsympathetic until she is about to be killed in S.2. They take out all the things about her that made her a complex character in the show and made her so....wicked. I hated this portrayal of AB . " I don't think Anne on the show was as unsympathetic as all that. She had major faults and could be mean-spirited but she also had good qualities; she was loving with kids (her maid, her daughter), she was good to her ladies in waiting, a devoted and faithful wife even when her husband was treating her like crap, and she spoke up against sacking the religious houses and for punishing religious houses that got good reports. So I found her quite complex, but I agree, they gave her more of a dark side than was necessary or is supported by reliable history, as opposed to anti-Protestant propaganda. I guess I could say I agree with you to a degree, I just don't feel it to the extent you do. But I certainly don't read your posts and go WTF?! I see where you are coming from.

Episode 7 "To honor and serve you".
"Anne had good reason to be terrified if Henry died. He was her main protector. With him dead, who were the English people more likely to support as their next ruler - Mary, almost twenty and looked to as heir to the throne for years, or Elizabeth, aged all of two and considered illegitimate by the Pope and many others? Even if Elizabeth was believed to be legitimate and Mary's status was doubtful, their respective ages would make people more inclined to support Mary. I can't see Mary being fondly disposed towards Anne if she became Queen. Best case scenario, Anne would carry her child to term and make Henry the father of a posthumous son - which would mean that she was facing an eighteen year struggle to hold the throne on his behalf, against Mary, possibly Fitzroy and anyone else with a strain of royal blood who fancied his chances of snatching the crown. Even if she hated him, his death would be devastating for her and I believe that she did love him. The shock has to have been a huge one for her, perhaps enough to induce a miscarriage.
It could have been either the accident or finding him with Jane Seymour, or it could have been a case of both, that Anne was in a fragile state after Henry's accident and unable to endure a second shock so soon afterwards." Holly2, i think you should take your place beside Professor Squirrly as a true Tudor expert. To use another old saying (I do this a lot), Anne couldn't live with Henry and she couldn't live without him. She was in a horribly precarious situation, which is why she kept miscarrying. The stress of being Queen in such a hostile environment and knowing she had to have a boy or else was simply too much. It certainly didn't help to know Mistress Seymour had become the apple of Henry's eye or that Henry had had a serious riding accident. I do think the poeple on these threads who comment about hating Anne so much don't know some of the details of her life. For example, if you base your opinions primarily on the show, then you don't know that Anne really wanted to marry another man and was prevented from doing so because the King wanted her. I do think the show makes it really clear that Henry was tired of being married to Katherine before he met Anne. It may seem contradictory, but I really admire both Katherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn. I remember reading that Katherine felt really sorry for Anne when Anne was prevented from marrying Henry Percy. At the time, of course, Katherine didn't probably know her husband had anything to do with it.

Which Tudor Do YOU Look Like?
Thank you, Your Highness. i would rather be a naughty lady in waiting than a queen any day!!
Who knows what Jane Boleyn really looked like, but I thought she was quite pretty in the show.

How do you correct the historical inaccuracies?
I agree with you & likely would have ignored it had I not been reading KATHERINE SWYNFORD. I've never seen Catalina referred to as Katherine of Lancaster before & I jumped to an erroneous conclusion based of this anglicized spelling. Any history "buff" and/or genealogist is frustrated by the custom of reusing family names repeatedly generation after generation as well as within generations (as in siblings naming their children the same family names such that cousins bear the same name). On page 271 of KATHERINE SWYNFORD, Weir's latest book, is this statement regarding John & Constance's daughter. "In 1406, his grandson, Catalina's son [Catalina being the daughter whose name we've been discussing], Juan II, succeeded to the throne of Castile...[lineage to Ferdinand & Isabella] Their youngest daughter, Catalina of Aragon, born in 1485, was named for her great-grandmother, Catalina of Lancaster..." I have just now learned Weir calls her Katherine of Lancaster in an earlier book. Many years and books later she sticks to the name used in historical papers, Catalina. I am sorry now I brought this up because it is clearly nitpicking about spelling, a no-win prior to the 20th century. Love the series. Probably will retreat to an audience on the list. Thanks everyone.

How would History have changed, do you think...
"Here's a quote from the synopsis at the back of Linda Porter's book concerning Mary, which literally goes hand in hand with the comment you made:
"A brave but often unhappy woman whose misfortune was to love not wisely, but too well..."" Reg,
I've been meaning to thank you for the back-up you've given to my posts, both on this page and on the previous page of this thread. It really made me feel great to see someone quoting me and giving me the credit for it too. THANK YOU!!! Kudos coming your way.
Regards, ETR

If you could ask Anne Boleyn any question, what would it be?
For me, it would be. Did you ever really love Henry VIII? I have my doubts.
and did you write your thoughts in a letter to your daughter before your death?
