This is certainly what she'd wear upon this event and it goes wonderfully with The Queen Jewels. It is the only dress of Queen Catherine's I wouldn't mind wearing myself. The only thing I'd say is a few pearls round the neckline and then it would be perfect!
Grace_B

She really does look every inch the Queen here. Every thing from the elegant pearl studded bodice with the dainty gold embroidery to her hair pinned up and adorn with a crown. The choker is beautiful and really completes the outfit. I wouldn't want to mess with her here, she looks like she could give her mother Isabella a run for her money. So stoic and regal.

poppypineapple

Fantastic! She looks every inch a Queen and I imagine this is definately something that Katherine would have worn. The jewellery, especially the choker make it look even more amazing, though some decoration on the neckline would have been nice.
-KatherinetheQueen

I like the the dress minus the patterned corset and how it continues in a line down on to the skirt. But her crown and choker are amazing, she looks very lovely. The pearls are very elegant against the dark material.
latristessadurera

Can't get any more regal than this. The colour suits her so well. She looks so elegant and classy and the choker continues this. I love the pearls on the bodice. The gown is stylish, classy, strong and regal.
amore_angel

Katherine's gown and jewelery plus MDK's outstanding performance made this one of the most memorable scenes from season 1 for me. - Boudica

Looking every inch a queen in this stunning costume - Maria Doyle Kennedy portrayed Katherine with such dignity & shamed Henry in front of the whole court. Totally agree, Boudica, this was the most moving scene of Season 1 - MsSquirrly

A lovely dress that Maria wears well. The dress makes her look regal and she makes it look elegant with her gracefulness. I love the square neckline which makes it from a potentially bland dress into something much beautiful. I love the pearls on her bodice but i wish they hadn't continued it into the skirt in a line. The shape of the sleeves are stunning.
fleur_de_lis

Katherine looks royal and regal in this gown. The color and jewelry befits her. Along with MDK's acting, this scene defines everything Katherine was in personality and looks. -LNor19

This is my favourite dress that Katherine of Aragon wears. The costume, the jewellery and the crown all define how Katherine was defending her status as Queen. I also love the speech she made - one of my favourite Katherine things is the Blackfriar's speech -VivatAnne1536

Katherine of Aragon looked every bit a queen in this scene, speaking her mind and making her point of view perfectly clear to everyone in the room, and that heard her speak, even centuries later. Her crown jewels are incredible, and very "her", something that I doubt was shown as much as it was with other queens. But this outfit, the jewels especially, was easily my favorite part coming from this amazing woman, and actress. - carteremily

Just echoing what everyone else said here. Absolutely loved the dress and the jewels were beautiful. Best scene in season one; Katherine being the strong and wonderful Queen she was. Maria Doyle Kennedy did a fantastic job delivering the speech.
*Coronation*

Magnificent jewels.-Jes89

It breaks my heart that Anne was so petty as to demand Katherine to give up her crown jewels. Karenofbethany

~coronation

Absolutely stunning...from top to bottom....totally regal!! - offwithherhead

Agreed. Totally beautiful and regal in a moving scene, love she is wearing the official jewels of the Queen of England to a hearing determining if she really is queen(which she was!) Come on... A royal Princess of Spain being the King of England's mistress for twenty four years? Unlikely. The True queen - I agree it was very petty and just plain nasty that Anne demanded Katherine's jewels - She refused but Henry forced her to. Ah well - she is at least remembered as the True Queen and her grave always has fresh flowers on it left by visitors. The detail and shape of this gown is stunning, looks amazing on Maria, just beautiful

hohumpigsbum

A lovely dress, i love the fitting of it and it suits Maria to a tee. The slight off shoulder sleeves brings a hint of sexy and stylish sophistication which is acceptable for the true queen of England. The dark colour looks lovely on her but the pearls on the bodice along with the gold thread brings a dab of light and prettiness to the outfit.
milkofhumankindness

This gown is so stunning and I think it was perfect for Katherine's speech scene. As for Anne demanding that Henry take Katherine's jewels, most historians now speculate that that is probably a rumor that was started by one of Anne's enemies, but if it wasn't, that was lame. And I have to say it, all of Henry's wives were true queens, he was just a jerk who had way to many issues.
MademoiselleBoleyn

I love Katherine in this gown. Finally, they have her wearing what looks like a traditional tudor gown.

I am going to be a slight disenter on this one. There is something wrong with this dress around the middle. There is just something that looks wrong with the bottom of the bodice and the beginning of the skirt. I have never seen another Tudor Gown look like that around the middle. Besides that one portion, it is a very beautiful gown and I like how it looks both black and dark blue. I think the most amazing thing about the outfit is the necklace.-AC

This dress was made for Catherine. It makes her so regal. The details are amzing.

Comments:

The coat has a nice pattern to it and the gown's colour goes well with the Queen Jewels. I'm not keen on this one though... When the yellow gown is underneath it looks better
Grace_B

Not too keen on the actual gown, I think there's a too much red and gold in this outfit which is only a good combination in moderation. But I really love the red overcoat and the golden floral print on it. She should have worn it with a plain red gown beneath so we can really admire the beauty of the gown itself.

poppypineapple

A strange but lovely dress. I prefer the coat with the red dress, the gold and red go well together. I also admit that i adore the skirt texture. The coat doesn't look like its fits her that well with the second dress though.
Latristessadurera

I love the outer coat and the colours of red and gold. It makes her look so regal. 'm just not liking the dress, it looks like the skirt is made from snake skin in the bottom picture. But i'm getting Princess Diana vibes here too
amore-angel

Everything about this scene, the setting sun, the peaceful and composed Katherine, and the outfit -- it's all gorgeous! - Boudica

I love the richness of the dress with the reds and gold mixed together to make a beautiful and regal outfit. I agree with Amore that the bottom of the dress does look like snake skin but the texture really compliments the fabric of the coat and the corset. I love the gold leaf effect on the long coat.
fleur_de_lis

I must agree with you, Boudica. It's an extremely amazing scene. It's my most favourite MDK scene, come to think about it. This is probably the last time she saw somebody that she knew since childhood and is probably saying goodbye to the past--forgive me if I'm wrong, but it came out the way they were channelling their emotions! The costume complemented the scene very well.-Neta07

Completely agree with you, Boudica and Neta07, this dress is awesome.- Lady_Paisley

MDK is so beautiful in this scene.-Jes89

This dress is absolutely beautiful. Katherine sitting here as she is reminds me of Princess Diana sitting in front of the Taj Mahal (when her marriage wasn't going well either), and her dress reminds me of an East Indian sari. - offwithherhead

A beautiful dress, once again the dress and coat are a wonderful fitting on Maria and compliments her figure. I think there might be too much gold on the coat that takes away from the lovely red but the dress underneath makes it up for it in colour. The snake skin skirt is a bit random but i love the hint of moderness about it.
milkofhumankindness

totally agree off with her head, it does remind me of Diana! and in many ways she was very like Diana - and they are distantly related! truly beautiful gown maria looks truly beautiful

I don't think it is accurate, though it suits her.

First of all, the fitting is great but not the best. I agree that Maria looks very regal in this, It looks like there is a farthingale in the skirt. No offence, but this gown makes her look larger than she actually is. Very nice material though!
Grace_B

Surprising Maria actually pulls this off because she has such a naturally regal stance. I think this gown could have benefitted from a fitted corset which would cinch her waist in a bit and not make the dress look so huge. The well placed fan in the promo pic creates this effect and she looks better for it. The black and gold combination creates a wonderfully elegant ensemble, especially with the golden underskirt peeking through. The simple criss cross trimming gives it an overall polished and completed look. She looks better with her hair down and flowing, she looks a decade younger.

poppypineapple

The fitting is a bit dodgy but the material is lush an the black and gold go well and suit her. I really like the gold patterns over the dress.
Latristessadurera

I think the dress would look stunning if it didn't have the puffball sleeves and wasn't so heavy. The colour of black and gold looks so elegant. Maybe its a bit too heavy but i think she pulls it off. She looks better in it with her hair down wearing an elegant tiara.
amore_angel

This dress is hard to form a final opinion on. In the promotion pictures I do not care for the dress, I find it very unflattering, however in the show itself, the dress looks good on Katherine. The black and gold looks very royal on Katherine.-LNor19

The pattern on the dress is lovely and the colour of gold and black go well together. I just really dislike the fitting which really does nothing for Katherine's figure at all. All might have been forgiven except for those leg of mutton sleeves which makes me think that the Tudors might have been filmed in the 80s. They really are hideous.
fleur_de_lis

Historically, I don't think she would have worn her hair down in public. Karenofbethany

I agree with lnor the dress didn't look that great in photos but I liked it in the show ~~coronation

If the dress was a good fitting and tighter i think it would be a beautiful dress. The black goes wonderfully with the golden underskirt and the pattern and thread adds sophistication and regalness. But this dress is far too big for her and makes her look huge. She looks wonderful in the first picture but only because she has a lovely matching fan hiding her middle. If they would have used less padding around her chest, shoulders and stomach, perhaps using a corset, she would have looked stunning.
milkofhumankindness

I really hate this dress, not Katherine at all. Maria is a beautiful woman - and they put her in this?!

I like this dress. The gold and and black work well together, and the dress impresses upon the audience her respectable and sometimes starched manner. Would I put this dress on Katherine Howard or Jane Seymour? No. But this gown looks good on Katherine of Aragon. It screams Spanish Queen of England.
booklvr44

It looks trully Spanish. A way to remind people of her roots. I think that the color is a bit sad for such a dress though.

The Tudors Costumes : Katherine of Aragon - The Tudors Wiki
The colour suits Maria but it is very fussy and not so classy.
Grace_B

This is a beautiful overcoat, I think the crimson really suits her dark complexion. The high collared neck gives her a very regal, haughty air. The gold fastenings compliment the gown beneath, which is plain but simple enough to compliment the coat. My only criticism is the headpiece. A simple gold tiara or pearl headband would have worked better.

poppypineapple

The coat would be nice without thestrange fastenings. It brings colour to the plain dress beneath.
Latristessadurera

I like the dress beneath, but not the red coat/cloak which is too fussy. Its nice to see her in some colour though rather than her trademark black.
amore_angel

They make her look dowdy here, which she was, never. Karenofbethany

I really love this dress, and headpiece with the coat - i prefer the cloak open, a lovely costume!!! I think the two pieces are lovely on their own but shouldn't be put together mary_bess_Edward

The dress underneath is nice but a bit dull. They should have made it more exciting if they were going to have such a neutral colour for the gown. The cloak had the potential of being good but the fan effect of the collar ruins it for me. I really love the fasteners. Not sure about the ruffed sleeves either, they just seem random to the outfit.
fleur_de_lis

The golden dress is pretty but plain, though i do like the beading and embroidery on the bodice, its more the skirt that makes it a bit boring. The shade of red is a bit too dark to go well with the gold. The coat is a bit boring too though i can't quite put my finger on what makes me dislike it. It might be the threading around the collar or the chunky looped button holders. The ruffled cuffs are unneccesary.
milkofhumankindness

Another Spanish looking gown. I prefer this one, it looks warmer and it suits her better in my opinion. Nevertheless, I find the golden headpiece awful.

This is excellent! The gown underneath is superb though I couldn't imagine the real KoA wearing this. But Maria Suits this and she look immense!
Grace_B

This outfit is quite simply gorgeous. The purple gown is in my top ten Tudor gowns. I love the subtle mixture of lilac, pink and gold on the bodice which makes it appear to glitter. The plain criss cross skirt compliments it beautifully and keeps it from looking gaudy. The fabric of the coat is actually luscious, I want to reach out a stroke the sleeves. Again, I think it could have benefitted from more structure to make it appear more bodice like, but all in all it's an amazing costume topped off wonderfully with an amethyst broach and a simple pearl headpiece. Very classy and understated, like the Tudor version of Chanel!

poppypineapple

I don't like this dress or the overcoat. The colour of the dress is just horrid and velvet is quiet a dodgy fabric when it comes to clothing, and this is a perfect example of that.
-KatherinetheQueen

The coat is lovely, the colour and velvet is lush. The corset is very pretty too, perhaps a bit too young for the aging Catherine? I really like the pearl headpiece too.

Latristessadurera

This dress is beautiful. The bodice is amazing and is finished off well with the broach. I also love the crisscross pattern on the skirt. I also love the style of the coat and the material. The colours are all the perfect shades of purple for her so she doesn't look ridiculous but rather regal.
amore_angel

I've always liked this dress. The color of royalty, purple, looks perfect of Katherine! The brooch on the corset top is the perfect accessory, simple but noticeable.-LNor19

I love Katherine's dress here. The colour is beautiful. As LNor said the royal colour looks just perfect on Katherine Her hair piece is beautiful as well.
*Coronation*

The dress is gorgeous, the lilac is so beautiful and suits Maria well. I love the pattern on the corset and how it is balanced out with a plain patterned skirt to keep it tasteful. I love the coat but think it would have been better as a jacket which she looks like she's wearing in the fourth picture. The texture looks soft and luxurious and i love the pleating touches on it. In full form the coat looks a little too heavy and full and she looks a little drowned in it.
fleur_de_lis

Wow, everything is just right. The colour looks magnificent on her and the accessories top it off perfectly
mary_bess_edward

A stunning costume. The coat should have been made into a spencer jacket or else have been made out of a lighter material because otherwise it looks like Maria is being weighed down by it. The pattern of the bodice is amazing, the mixture of colours in the honeycomb pattern makes it look like it is glitter. The patterned skirt stops it from being too plain.
milkofhumankindness

I like this dress, I just think it clashes with the overcoat since the shades of purple are so different.
MademoiselleBoleyn

It could have been one of my favourite gowns but the fabric ruined everything. The gown in itself is quite pretty, so is the headpiece. Damn that coat.

Katherine of Aragon
It's alright, but by far not the best. It doesn't look complete though.
Grace_B

It's a lovely gown but it's just missing something. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe shiny fabric or a deeper, richer colour? I think red trimming and embroidery on the bodice would liven it up a bit. But I do love the red mixing with the gold of the coat.

poppypineapple

I like the style of the dress, it definately reminds me of Katherine, but the colour should be a richer gold, have a more squared neckline adorned with pearls and jewels and an underskirt would be much better. I just think it needs more decoration and time spent on it, because it does have potential.
-KatherinetheQueen

The dress is a bit uninspiring, though the corset is quite charming. The red trimming brings a bit of life to it. Another amazing headpiece.

Latristessedurera

I think this is the same dress from 1:6 and it looks much better here. She looks beautiful, the pale gold colour suits her so well. And the coat suits it so better rather than clashing or making it look gaudy like it did above.
amore_angel

MDK looks stunning here - VivatAnne1536

I liked this dress the colours in it compliment Maria's fair complexion love the headpiece as well.
~coronation

I think this coat compliment the dress much better than the one she wore with it 2 dresses above. I also love it when Maria wears her hair down!
- offwithherhead

Amore i think it is the same dress and she does look much better wearing it here. I think its because the dress and the coat are similar colours and don't class as much as it did with the red coat. The simple pattern of the coat really brings this dress together and the gold effect makes her look very regal. I alsolove the fur (?) trimmings around it which puts some life into the outfit without taking away from it.
fleur_de_lis

Again the dress is pretty if a little plain. The beading and embroidery on the corset stop it from being too boring. The dress also goes better with the neutral colour of the coat rather than clashing with a red. The simple pattern of the coat catches your eye and the brown fur trimming around the collar and sleeves make it look very expensive. The brown goes wonderfully with the golden colours.
milkofhumankindness

She looks lovely here!! I love that she can look so regal at all times, and this gown is just so gorgeous, I even like the coat she wears over top, and the headpiece is just stunning...she is always a true Queen. -Tudor_Queen

This is lovely, but I agree with KatherinetheQueen that it would make a greater maternity gown for KoA. I think it's because it's very flowing and not at all tight fitting. I could imagine this in the early years of her marriage to King Henry 8 with a baby bump under the skirt.
Grace_B

Breath taking. Once again the subtle gold print and trimming work wonderfully against the black background to create an elegant ensemble. The mixture of stiff velvet and delicate lace really polishes the outfit. The empire waistline works surprisingly well upon her considering they have the habit of making you appear fat but Maria looks very slender here. I also love the small details gone into the outfit, such as the black lace across her chest and the pearls on the waistline. How could Henry resist her, especially with her hair down?

poppypineapple

This would make a great maternity dress for Katherine.
-KatherinetheQueen

My favourite Katherine dress. The blaxk and gold look stunning together and the sleeves are so pretty and lacy. The style really suits her and i like her hair put up with a simple headpiece showing off her lovely pearl earrings.

Latristessadurera

This combination of black and gold works much better than the promotional shot. Its so light and flowing. I love the sort of 'v' neck of the collar and the loose sleves. The gold pattern on the skirt is beautiful. The pearl earrings finish it off perfectly.
amore_angel

Katherine wears the combination of black and gold very well. And I love the sleeves on this dress, as well as her French hood/bag snood.-LNor19

An amazing dress, probably my favourite Katherine dress. The colours compliment each other well. The cut of the neckline is inspired and i love the lace that covers her cleavage. The gold leaf effect on the front and around the sleeves really is genius. I also love how the two materials work, with the velvet bust and lacy skirt. The empire waistline was really used well here. The discreet jewels of pearls and an emerald finishes it nicely. I also love the lacy sleeves.
fleur_de_lis

Lovely dress but the accompanying headpiece at the joust is awful! - VivatAnne1536

I think that dress is so beautiful,so medieval i love it!-Jes89

I don't think Katherine ever wore a french hood, but I could be wrong. Nevertheless, the costumes - all of them - are magnificent and so meticulously put together, the fabrics are scrumptious. Karenofbethany

Beautiful! as lnor said maria really suits black and gold I like the french hood on her too. She looked soo beautiful at the joust.~coronation

This dress is magnificent and Maria totally rocks it!! - offwithherhead

OMG this is a wonderful dress and suits her so well. The shape, the fitting, the colours. Just wow!
mary_bess_edward
Theblack velvet bustline makes the outfit very elegant and also a bit sexy along with the lace around her bust. The gold patterns against the black looks very royal and regal. The lacy, loose sleeves show this queen still has style and taste. She's hit the nail on the head here, GO KATHERINE! milkofhumankindness

My favorite Katherine of Aragon dress. She looks wonderful!!

Katherine of Aragon
This looks very rushed and plain. It dosen't appeal to me much but there is potential. This looks like the outfit of a miserable, elderly and sad queen. The real KoA would never have worn something like this. The fitting looks rather tight actually, it makes her look actually quite broad.
Grace_B

If they had used a sleeker, shinier fabric and used a rich silver colour instead of grey, this gown would look incredible. Also get rid of the peplum as it makes her look stout. But other than that, it's a lovely outfit and I love the bejewelled belt and pearl clusters.

poppypineapple

It has potential, but it just needs more time spent on it. It just looks unflattering and unfinished and nothing compared to the regal gowns Katherine would have worn.
-KatherinetheQueen

A little too grey though i do like the amazing tiara and the pearls sewed onto the corset.

Latristessadurera

I don't think this dress is very flattering. Its looks very heavy in the middle, the colour is plain and the fabric is uninspiring. I think it looks nice in the lower right picture but not the others. The panels in the middle put me off it too. I love the tiara in the top picture though.
amore_angel

agree KOB Maria totally rocked this scene!! The colour of the dress is really pretty I like her necklace and her hairpiece too.
~coronation

I agree that this dress is beautiful, but I think the color of it is too muted for Maria. I think Maria looks better in bolder colors.
- offwithherhead

-Look at the dignity and composure on her face and in her bearing as she withstands a celebration for Henry's illegitimate son! The crown is awesome! KOB

This dress is hideous. The colour is drab, the white things on the upper half are distracting and the flaps around the waist are very unflattering
mary_bess_edward

I think that if was smoother and more streamlined the dress would have worked better. However they had to give her little flaps around her waist which are distracting and in my mind, unnecessary. Other than that it is a nice dress. The colour is a little dull but the clusters of pearls on the corset brings some needed pattern.
fleur_de_lis

I like the bodice. The silver is lovely and the smooth, sleek material looks beautiful. The pearls look elegant and they are not too big or too many to look silly. It looks lovely with the ruby belt. But the flaps around the bodice in the first photo look ridiculous, especially when the centre one is so much smaller and out of place. The pattern on the skirt looks faded, like it had once been golden thread that has now vanished. It looks rather incomplete. The sleeves and cloak are lovely though.

It is lovely and you can see the spanish style in it. If there wasn't that pretty pattern on the corset it would look very boring.
Grace_B

The bit of gold stops the dress from being too depressing. I think the pattern on the corset is very pretty and inspiring.

Latristessadurera

I love the Spanish feeling to this dress. Another perfect example of how she makes black and gold look so good. The fitting is perfect and the threading pattern on the bodice is stunning. I prefer the top picture's headpiece because it continues the Spanish theme and the black veil goes better than a white veil.
amore_angel

Love this dress! She looks so elegant in black but the pattern on the corset top brings something to it so it's not all sombre and boring. I prefer the headpiece and veil in the second and third picture, as it makes her look more Spanish.
mary_bess_edward
I'm not sure about the pattern on her bodice. It looks well done but perhaps there's too much. I do like the little jacket with it and the shape and fitting suits her well. The black and gold veil was a really clever idea and works better than the white one. fleur_de_lis

I love the pattern on the bodice. How it intricately interlocks within each other. The little bits of gold around the top of the bodice is simple yet pretty. The gold makes it less depressing but she still looks so elegant and beautiful. I love the style of the coat, especially around the collar. The black veil with golden embroidery is so well though out and matches the dress perfectly. I think the white veil looks silly because of the darkness of the dress.
milkofhumankindness

A beautiful gown and then again, the headpieces reminds people of her spanish roots.

I agree with amore_angel that she is the only one who could wear all these colours together. The long brooch sort of thing with the pearls and the rubies looks really nice, it's the best thing about it.
Grace_B

I think she is the only one who could get away with wearing such a swirl of colours. If i saw this on someone else i think i'd hate it but it looks so good on her. I love the four pearls which act like buttons to keep that simple class with it. It goes really well with the black coat and the choker.

amore_angel

I love this dress and want it badly!!! The pattern is elegant with swirls of gold, red, and a forest green. The pearls beaded down the center of the dress are lovely, and once again, the black and gold scheme suits Katherine.-LNor19

I love the top part of the dress but because the pattern is so colourful and loud they should have limited it to the corset and perhaps have given her a dark skirt. I also love the pearls and rubies but think they should have eliminated the last set so it just covered the corset and not go into the skirt. The neckline is flattering though and i love the added stones.
fleur_de_lis

She looks like a goddess. All of that is tedious embroidery and piece work, the likes of which we will never see again. The details on her veil and the buttons, heaven. karenofbethany

One of my favorites of Katherine's dresses. The pattern is stunning. Love the full length veil. - offwithherhead

I love it. The colours are so random and shouldn't really go together but they do and so wonderfully. It is a perfect example of being bold but not in excess. It knows when to stop before it makes a big hideous mess. The pearls and rubies down the bodice are very clever and once again bring an elegant touch of colour to an already colourful dress. The black coat and veil goes well with it so the outfit is not too over the top. A great success of the wardrobing department. I also love the curve of the top of the corset.

If you get past those awful sleeves, the coat is gorgeous and that red colour is lush, especially on her. It goes with the corset well, It looks much better than when she had that black overcoat and veil at prayer.
Grace_B

I love the dress as i mentioned above, and i really like coat except maybe the sleeves are a bit too full and heavy when seeing it in full. But i love the stipes on the sleeve and the colour of it is so rich.

amore_angel

The dress looks much better here and the pattern which i said looked a bit too much looks a lot more toned down here perhaps because it is rivalling with richer colours. The red of the coat is gorgeous but the striped sleeves looks a little odd in where they start and where they finish. I think a coat of pure red would have looked much better but it is still a beautiful outfit.
fleur_de_lis

Ahh! Loved this dress. Maria looks every inch the Queen in it, her hairpiece is really beautiful too.
coronation

The wonderful interlocking pattern still looks amazing here. The red coat goes beautifully with the dark dress and the dark parts of the coat sleeves really does make it look like it was designed for this dress.
milkofhumankindness
The Tudors Costumes : Katherine of Aragon - The Tudors Wiki Too much, the pearls and that silly headdress force the dress and the cloak to not mix.
Grace_B

The mixture of colours in the coat put me off the outfit, alongside that huge feather on her headpiece. The coat might have looked better if it didn't have that red/orange part of the pattern ehich just seems so odd and isolated with the greys, blues and creamy colours.

fleur_de_lis

I really do like the coat except for the orangey red pattern. It would be a lovely sea coloured coat with splashes of cream that would have gone well with the golden dress. The pattern of the coat once again goes well with the plainess of the dress. I do not like the headpiece though.
