I made this gown for the 2010 Renaissance Festival in Kansas City. I modified a dress found at the local thrift store. I changed the neckline, added the embroidered cream material, trim, and bead work. This costume took 2nd place in the costume contest. These two costumes were made for this year's Renaissance Festival. Again, the gown was inspired by several of Anne Boleyn's costumes. You can't tell from the picture but the yellow fabric is embroidered with a small floral pattern. The bodice jewelry was made by a friend. Sadly, I don't have' a better picture of it. I can't claim credit for the cape my friend is wearing, or for the hat, but I did make the shirt and doublet. Again, you can't really see the detailing, but the gold trim down the middle is accented with pearls, and it closes with larger pearl buttons. Both costumes were designed by myself and made almost entirely by scratch. Most of the sewing on the dress was done by hand, not from a a dedication to authenticity but due to lack of a sewing machine at the time, lol. - actchickcee

Sew Perfectly Tudor

I dont know about you, but I love to create art of all kinds. One of my most favorite activities is creating costumes from scratch. Here is some of my Tudor Collection, I made over the summer 2009. These gowns have inset split front skirts with matching brocade to each French hood( the hat), featuring faux fur hanging sleeves and fitted corseted bodice with shift(chemise), and petticoats underneath. The jeweled girdle belt, gown and hat are all handmade. It takes me a week to make a gown with accessories working on it 8 hours a day. Some of the necklaces and earrings are finds from yard sales and thrift shops. Its surprising how you can get some things to pass as Tudor with the right matching pieces.
