Joan Bergin, the Tudors Costume designer was asked how she approached
Katherine Howard's costumes in Season 4 and she said :
"That was just the most fun. There wasn’t anything in the writing so I came up with this very girly thing, Henry would arrive into the room and she and her ladies would be in the middle of a maelstrom of clothes everywhere and would think ‘Oh my god what have I done, here are all these 17 year olds screaming and trying on dresses!’ The actress playing Katherine Howard (Tamzin Merchant) was absolutely wonderful which made it even more fun. It couldn’t have been more different from what went before: the beginning season 4 starts with him being reborn and trying to live up to this young one who wants to dance every night. Katherine’s wardrobe is all girly flowery pinks and blues. Her rooms are absolutely beautiful and filled with embroidered turquoise silks. "

I think this is a pretty dress but only in the last photo, i think it has to do with how the light shines on it. The lilac sleeves and skirts are a beautiful colour and it really suits Tamzin's youth and light hair. The floral pattern on the bodice is also really pretty and fits the theme of the dress. However, in some shots the background material of the bodice looks like an old cushion and that puts me off it a bit. But the tiara compliments the dress wonderfully.
latristessaduera

From what I can see of this dress, I love it. The colour is beautiful and it looks like it has bell sleeves.

SO FAR I LIKE IT!
amethyst_pisces

This dress looks so beautiful! The color is fantastic and the style is one of my favorites.
MademoiselleBoleyn

From what i can see of the dress, I think I like it, especially the embroidery on the bodice.
MademoiselleBoleyn

I like this dress very much, love the colors and the bodice, makes queen katherine mature..
ManyNSammyNwokolo

I really like this dress as well.
~AnneBoleyn
This is possibly the best dress that Katherine has. The soft blue/lilac so suits her. The fit is perfect and the embroidery on the bodice is delicate and I think suits the personality of Katherine. Lady History.

I really like this gown. The color is flattering on her. I like that it has a Tudoresk look to it and that it is ornate. Very pretty gown. Looking forward to seeing the final season! RAF

Very feminine on her the fit is gorgeous
wresltgal

It's very very beautiful!!!
BoleynGirl

this dress it best best she has worn so far i love the colour
ladynicoletudor

This is actually one of the few nice dresses, Catherine wears this season. The color is pretty and it actually fits. As a lover of the bell sleeves, the use of them also furthers my love for this gown. -Anne's Curls

I love this dress. My My favorite this season--the colors suit her very well, but my favorite part is the gorgeous bodice! -FalconQueen

This is by far her best dress and my favourite, she looks young and innocent, and important, but without a crown or tiara, i wouldnt have said she looks like a queen in it, the ashy blue/grey/brown colour works with her hair and the jewellry.
xTrueHeartx

I believe this is the only dress we all unanimously agree is beautiful. There could be no colour greater for her complexion and the tiara keeps her look innocent.
-Lady Durham

One of Katherine's best dresses, for sure! If the neckline was adorned with jewels it would look even better!
-katherinethequeen

It is beautiful! Everything matches for this gown! The jewellery, the color... Exquisite. One her best gowns.

"Your Majesty, your bodice looks like it came out of a runway dream and the fabric looks like it costs oodles of pounds. But how did you find a H&M to buy your necklace in the 1500s? And please take that doughnut off your head."
-Lady Durham

I like the top part of the bodice which is shown in third photo, however i think they took the idea too far by using it for the whole bodice like they did and then using a similiar pattern theme in the skirt. Perhaps plainer sleeves would have worked better but all together it is too much. And the episode 2 head piece has to be the most hideous tiara used in the entire show.
latristessaduera

I'm not a huge fan of the bodice on this dress, but I do like her tiara.
MademoiselleBoleyn

I like this dress. It is very "young" and flirty looking. Just like Katheryn. It even resembles undergarments a bit.
~AnneBoleyn

I don't like the material on the bodice
wrthe bodice has a mermaid feel to it
-ManyNSammyNwokolo

Really Elizabethan and what is up with the crazy headdress. Cann't we see her in a cute french hood. After all she did wear them. RAF

I really don't like the headdress and the puffy sleeves the dress is just all wrong for her
wresltgalesltgal

The headdress worn in episode 2 is gawd awful. I believe that is a scene where Culpepper comes to see her. Getting over the headdress is difficult. As for the actual dress, what is that bodice made out of? For some reason it reminds me of one of those rugs that is put at the front door of a house. The waist and skirt are also unattractive.-Anne'sCurls

I really don't like the pattern used on the dress AND diadem, it's a bit over the top. I'm not sure if it's accurate for the period or not.
-katherinethequeen

I do not like it at all, it does not suit the girl she is and that hat is just ugly.
Marina de Champagne

The fitting and shape of the dress is absolutely wonderful, it's just a shame they used such an unflattering colour. The silvery blue underskirt is beautiful, perhaps a darker blue would have been nice to go over it and complimented it better.
latristessaduerea

This dress is so pretty, I love the way the bodice laces up in the front and the color really suits her.
MademoiselleBoleyn

this dress is really nice.the green really suits her
ladynicoletudor

I think the only thing flattering on this dress is the blue underskit. For some reason this tone of green does not look very attractive. But I will say that the way they did Tamzin's hair is very elegant and attractive.-Anne'sCurls

I like the cut of this dress, it's just a pity that this nasty shade of green was used. All pale blue would have been better. The tiara is a better size for her head. Lady History.

Not as pretty from waist down. I love her hair and the tiarra and was thinking when I saw this from the waist up in the promos, "Ooh this will be the dress of my dreams this season." Kinda disapointed.
-LadyDurham

I don't like this dress and I can't see Katherine wearing it, maybe a lady-in-waiting.

Katherine Howard's gown
It is gorgeous dress but i think it's a bit too mature for Katherine Howard, i think it might have suited Catherine Parr more. I think Tamzin is too small and skinny to wear this well. However, it is a lovely dress and i adore the red bodice and gold embroidery. The brightness of the red is toned down by the white, floral sleeves so it doesn't look too much. This is one of the best tiaras on the show, it is beautiful.
latristessaduera

I like the colors of this gown
-Manynsammynwokolo

This gown really reminds me of 18th century gowns. I could see Marie Antoinette wearing this one. I believe this is the same headdress Anne wears in Season 1.
~AnneBoleyn

Ok serriously!! This is no where near the ballpark of TUDOR. This is a Georgian Gown for GOD SAKES! How dumb do you think we are. Yes its pretty but come on! RAF

This is a nice dress for a young lady to wear
wresltgal

I love it.....and her tiara!
BoleynGirl

I think this is the first time I have actually liked that type of tiara of any of the queens. IDK, maybe i am just getting used to seing them so I don't hate it as much. The dress is beautiful. Booklvr44

I like this gown, the flower print reminds me of the 2006 movie Marie Antoinette. I like the fit of the gown and the the shape of the skirt. This is another of the few times where everything works on Catherine from her head to her toes. Her headdress reminds me of the ones Anne wore in Season 1-Anne'sCurls

This outfit is lovely. Katherine looks comfortable all round in it. This doesn't look truly Tudor. There is definately a strong Georgian influence in this dress and I wouldn't really blink an eye at it being in a production of about 200 years later. Lady History.

I love this gown, the materials used are so fun and the bodice is breathtaking. Amazing dress!
MademoiselleBoleyn

Tamzin wears the colours very well, and the details are quite fun and flirty. The crown is much too big for her, but I think that's supposed to be symbolism.

I love the vibrant colour of the gown it is extremely regal and the style and shape of it is lovely and flowing, perhaps more medieval than Tudor. However, the sleevesreally ruin this potentially beautiful dress. The golden threading looks like 'cut here' lines and makes it look quite cheap. I also think that whilst the puffing at the shoulders was charming, thought that the extra puffing at the elbow is too much and ruins the outfit. I love the pearl broach on the bodice which adds to the extravagence of the outfit.
latristessaduera

I've seen this one on an extra. I like it though, it has a medieval flair.
~AnneBoleyn

I've seen this gown in Dangerous Beauty. Still it's pretty and Elizabethan. NOT TUDOR! RAF

Not to happy with the swinging pearl the sleeves make it look like a peasent dress
wresltgal

I guess this is another one of the Christmas gowns all the queens, except AOC, wore. I think this is my second favorite behind Jane Seymours gown. I like the color and the pendant at the top of the bodice. For some reason the best thing about this gown for me is the bodice. There is just something so appealing about the shape and the shiny material. -Anne'sCurls

This rich red color really suits her, its so vibrant and full of life. I love the style of the dress, especially the sleeves and I really like her brooch.
MademoiselleBoleyn

Cheap and tacky. The jewels look totally fake and the red is awful for her delicate colouring. Not good. Lady History.

There is really no colour Tamzin can wear poorly, but I agree that it feels a tad tacky and pompous.
-Lady Durham

I like it! But when I see it, I can't help thinking " Eleanor of Aquitaine"

Very boring and plain. Even some colourful jewels might have helped bring this outfit to life. If she wasn't wearing a tiara i might have mistook her for a lady-in-waiting. The dull colour doesn't suit her complexion or hair either.
latristessaduera

I'm not a huge fan of the tiara, but I like the simple elegance of the dress. She looks so young here.
~AnneBoleyn

Boring! RAF

The crown is too big for her
wresltgal

I like the dress and how the material is a little sparkly. Although I do this the crown is a little to big for her.
AB_Fan07

I must ask, why the costume designers, producers, directors or someone did not say anything when it comes to a few of the tiara's Tamzin wears which are clearly unattractive on her. I don't blame it on her, I just honestly don't know what they were trying to do with some of these. As for the gown itself, it is nice enough, perhaps a little boring. I think the sleeves should be tighter though.-Anne'sCurls

I like the dress, but I think the material is a little bit boring. The embroidery on the bodice is very pretty.
MademoiselleBoleyn

This is really just a glorified version of the ladies in waiting's dresses with some gold embroidery on the front. The tiara is HUGE! How did she manage to hold that on her head while filming! Lady History.

It had potential, but it just looks boring and unfinished. Her diadem and jewellery are beautiful, if there were pearls and jewels adorned the neckline and the sleeves were slightly puffier or belled, this would be stunning!
-katherinethequeen

This is such a luscious dress. Rich in colour and texture. The red is lovely and vibrant, and the plain bodice stops it from being too over the top. The fur is a beautiful touch and the darkness suits the rich red. I adore the little flat cap, she looks so cute in it. And the chain belt is genius.
latristessaduera

Love the hat!
~AnneBoleyn

This outift fits her well
wresltgal

i love this outfit it suits her really well
ladynicoletudor

Not a big fan, the only thing that sticks out for me is the skirt and the chain around her middle. I recal that such a practice was in style during this time and its nice to see it used.-Anne'sCurls

The chain around the waist is called a girdle. I'm actually surprised they weren't used often in the series, all ladies worse them, well, titled ladies, back then. It was a must need to a lady's wardrobe. It was even said that Jane Seymore insisted on the ladies at court wearing them. Anyway, the gown here is rather flirty. I love the colors but I'm not so much into the fur myself but it was worn back then. I do also like the hat, very tudorish.

Katherine Howard's dressKatherine Howard Blue Gown
Worse outfit ever. Everything clashes. The vibrant blue is lovely in itself but adding the poorly attatched yellow skirt which look like it's tacked on, what were they thinking? Not only that but then they add a big Elizabethan ruff along with more yellow and golds. She doesn't look queenly at all. If she wanted to make a statement she certainly did. She is the joke of the court. Whoever designed this should have been sacked!
latristessaduera

I love the colors of the dress, not so much the ruffles
-ManyNSammyNwokolo

I like the colour, it's very deep, but I'm not a fan of the light yellow overskirt thing. It looks like it was pinned on as an afterthought.
-EmerMorrisey

OMG WTH! Who designed this monstrosity? Are those stars or butterflies painted on the blue dress? This dress would have been beautiful if it wasnt for that ruff and the yellow over dress. The blue is such a pretty color and looks good on her. I am starting to wonder if perhaps the costume dept. is trying to give the feel that Catherine herself is designing these ensembles which is why they are so over the top and unflattering.-AC

What in the name of fashion is this mess it's too big for her she looks crushed with it on her the designer should be ashamed of herself-wrestlgal

This is definately a statement outfit! Pity the bold blue and butter yellow don't suit. Maybe it could have been ok if the massive ruff wasn't drowning her. Also the ruff is about 70 years too early! Lady History.

One you see this dress in person, you can see the detail and the fabric and will understand how really beautiful it is. ~MsSquirrly

Another lovely vibrant colour, these bright colours defintely suit Katherine. The gold embroidery really goes well and i love the floral aspects of the gown. But the brown fur collar and cuffs ruin it. The cap is adorable but it would have been better without the green feathers.
latristessaduera

this dress is ok but i hate the hat
ladynicoletudor

No wonder I like this outfit especially in the picture where she is turned around looking at Culpepper. The blue looks to be changing colors depending on the lighting. And I think I might like that hat though I think it should have been tilted to the side.-AC

Does she wear 2 different skirts under this gown?

This is a gorgeous dress, i adore the colour it is so rich and vibrant. The bare shoulders are a bit off putting, as are the sleeves, which although i love them make it look like she lives in a hareem. The bodice is beautiful and i love the layer of skirts and how flowing they are. It looks truly wonderful to dance in.
latristessaduera

Until this dress, there hadn't been a single dress of KH that I disliked. This is just awful. I hate the sleeves, the color. I also hate the way they did her hair.
Booklvr44

The colours are cute, but it looks almost Arabian to me.
-EmerMorrisey

There is something appealing about the dress only if one thing was toned down. Perhaps the bottoom of the sleeves need to go and then it would be ok. I do especially like the colors. I think that without the flowing sleeves starting at the midsection of her arms, and instead a sleeve fashionable during this period, then this dress could be worn to a party or banquet. -AC

the sleeves look a little trashy-wresltgal

I like the color of the dress, but I dont like the sleeves.
AB_Fan07

OH! NO! The purple drains her skin of all colour. Arabian nights. The piece of cloth in the neckline is ugly. Lady History.

Like with all of Kitty's gowns I get a cute but prom-dressy vibe. Also, my ultimate style pet peeve on the show is here: bare, slit shoulders. This is the equivalent of cutting holes in your shirt to show off the colour of you bra in those days!

The bodice is a bit plain and the material looks cheap, however the lace of the underskirt makes up for this, and the crisp fabric of the sleeves and overskirt compliments it well. The mixture of colours are really lovely, and the cloak and hat are cute.
latristessaduera

I like this dress, although Im not a fan of the hat. The material on the skirt is very pretty and I like the blue color of the dress.

The fur collar is quite charming, however i cannot say i like the combination of black and yellow, she looks like a wasp. The dark skirt is pretty enough with touches of yellow but the jacket is horendous. The material of the bodice and sleeve is hideous.
latristessaduera

The Crown looks fake and cheap
wrestlgal

Wrestlgal, you obviously never saw a crown from the middle ages, most of them looked just like what Katheryn wears in the fourth picture.
All in all, I do love this gown, gold and black goes well together. Not too much of a fan of the fur but I'm not going to nit pick about that. I also like the hat.
Charlie-Beth-Hayden

This outfit (I can't figure out what all encompases this outfit) looks the best in the 4th picture with Catherine giving a full frontal view. The black and gold works well together. I wish we were given a better view of what is actually going on with this outfit though. It looks as if someone is changing it in every scene she is in, like she has some lady in waiting hiding behind a curtain with a sewing machine. -Anne'sCurls

Everything in this look is big and haughty. Right down to the useless fur piece this is Trophy Wife Chic: Tudor Edition. Not always a bad thing as I could see this on the runways of modern Milan.

I think the sleeves are quite charming but i absolutely hate the glitter bodice. The skirt is pretty but i think the dress would have been much better with a richer, more vibrant red, like Jane Seymour's Christmas dress.
latristessaduera

I know that I said that I hate puffy sleeves on one of her dresses, but for some reason the puffy sleeves suit this one very well
Wresltgal

I do like this dress, although I dont like the puffy sleeves a whole lot.
AB_Fan07

I really don't like the sleeves. They are bigger than her waist. booklvr44

I like this dress with the exception of the bodice. This actually makes her look very regal and a little bit older and more mature. The accompanying jewellery are very mismatched with the dress though.
latristessaduera

I really like this dress. Its not her typical blue, white , or pink dress. I looks really nice on her. I also like the jewelry and how they did her hair. booklvr44

I like the gown well enough, I like the colors (although I dont know what they are) and I especially think this gown is quite pretty when it is actually in motion. I like the bodice, back and front, but I think the necklace is a little plain and the colors don't go with the rest of the outfit. -Anne'sCurls

When Thinking Of Culpepper - S4E2
I love this nightgown but it looks better on a taller, slender lady like Annabelle Wallis rather than a small, skinny girl like Tamzin. In short, it looked much better on Jane.
latristessaduera

latristessaduera

The dress is a little low cut. But it swayed very nicely when she ran down the hall in that scene. Booklvr44

Neither the hair or cut of the gown is particularly flattering. It was at this point I stopped looking for Kitty to be the next Anne Boleyn when it comes to style; her style is trendy and pretty like a princess rather than innovative and polished like a Queen.
