Sympathy for
Those of us who have lost a pet and need to share our grief.

The situation:

I recently had to put my cat Larry to sleep. It was a terrible time for me and I needed to share my grief. I don't have any pics of him, but check out JRMGRL's Tink, Larry looked very much like him. It was extremely hard for me to make the final decision. I'd taken him to the vet and put him on
antibiotics and had blood tests done. It came to the point where he wouldn't eat anything, even tho the anti's were helping. After 3 weeks of watching him grow thinner and thinner and just hover in one spot day and night, I had to put him to sleep for his benefit. The hardest part was taking him back home again and having to bury him. God, but it was just awful! My other vet had closed and he provided services to a burial ground in CT for cats and dogs. The new place doesn't and charges for almost everything you can think of. But the staff was very sympathetic and careful of his treatment. The 2 vets that worked on him sent me a sympathy card in the mail, something I've never seen before!

I put this page up for all of you who have experienced the loss of a loved pet, and need to share and grieve for your loss.

And to all our pets, past and present, thank you for the love and joy you brought to us. We will never forget you.

Ugh! I feel your pain, ETR, and anybody who's had to make that terrible choice. Lucy was only eleven when I had to put her down due to liver failure. She was in so much agony for weeks and it felt like getting my heard wretched from my chest to be with her in her last moments. Horrible experience, even though my vet said I did the right thing, it didn't feel like it at the time. But you really did do the right thing by not prolonging his suffering. - Boudica
Thank you Boudica. This happened a couple of weeks ago and I'm ok from everything. I miss him very much, but it was time. I've had to go through this 6 times already. My bevy of cats are getting old now and this is going to continue to happen throughout the rest of this year and next. My oldest is 16 in October, my youngest just turned 7. I just wanted a sympathy page for all the members who lose a pet and need anything from advice to a shoulder to cry on to help get them through their difficult time. I'm not even sure about the formatting of this page yet, but used the TOY site as a model.
From June 08 to June 09, I lost 2 cats and a hamster, and this last loss was so bad that I had to put something up on the wiki for everyone to come to and share and grieve. Larry's liver counts were off the chart, all were double of what they should have been and I knew then that I didn't have much time left. As I said, burying him was the worst part. I only had to bury one other cat and my Dad let me bury her in the yard, he even dug the hole for me. The 2nd worst part is my Dad was always there when I lost a pet. He'd take me to the vet, lend money, or just give hugs. It was worse this time because he wasn't here to comfort me, he passed in February, and it made this loss so much harder. Dad always had my back. But to all of you, please come here and share your questions, memories, laugh, and cry if you need to. --- ETR

Tiger Lily A tiny Calico kitten in NY who was put into a 500 degree oven by 2 teenage girls, 17 and 14. The 14 yr old did it, the 17 yr old left her there. I am incensed by this horror!! I cannot do anything but grieve as if she were my own. I NEEDED to dedicate this video to her memory, and to the memories of all animals who have left us far too soon by inhumane people.
