Bonus questions for February 5th/6th: 1. In the 16th century The Netherlands and Germany were formed by a lot of smaller territories. By marrying Anne of Cleves mother, Annes father could add some territories to the ones he owned already and now had 6 and for a number of years also 8 duchies, counties and provinces. Name one duchy, one county and one province (Herzogtum, Grafschaft, Herrschaft) that he owned. (1 point for each correct answer) | 2. The name of one of the castles ("Burg") that belonged to Annes father is nowadays known as ......Burg. This name was given to it in the 19th century, but in the middle ages a tower (built in 1453) bore that specific name already and on top of this tower a gilded .... was placed (1455). According to legend a legendary knight was in a small boat, that was pulled by ......., the knight was also called .....knight. What is the name of the present castle (zie the Catt Stuff page for a picture)? (2 points)
Below is a question that gives you the opportunity to earn a "Request For Information"-point. You can use this point to ask me for extra information on a question of your choice. Next weekend, there will be a new opportunity to earn such a point, but don't waste it on the first difficulty you stumble upon. There will be limited chances to earn those points. Question: As we all know, the end of Annes marriage with Henry was quickly followed by Henry's fifth wedding, with Catherine Howard. When Catherine was beheaded more than a year later, for a short moment Anne hoped Henry would reconsider marrying her. There was however someone who quickly made an end to those dreams. Who was this person?

Bonus question of January 22nd/23rd. Of which picture is this a detail? |
My boss has been to London for a couple of days. I had to stay at home, but she organised a cat-sitter for me, so I was not home alone. As a sort of comfort she brought home a whole bunch of pictures, so I could take part in her trip too. I selected a few pictures of three Tudor-related buildings for you. Hope you like them. Inside Westminster Palace: Westminster Hall. Due to bad light conditions not a good picture, but these walls have seen and heard Anne Boleyn and Thomas Morea.o. during their trial.

469 years agoThomas Culpeper died on this day. 10 December 1541 Thomas Culpeper was beheaded for the fact that he committed or intended to commit adultry, with Queen Katherine Howard. Through what I read about Culpeper, I haven't got the idea that he was a very noble thinking person. He probably raped a wife, highly probable but there is some confusion about the fact that his brother, also named Thomas, was at King Henry VIII's court in the same period. A rapist is not exactly someone I find likeable. Still, there is something about Thomas Culpeper. It is the fact that he was condemned by King Henry for doing something, or intending to do something, that our King did long before him. It makes me angry. Just because Henry was born as son of a King, he was in a position where he could deal in such a way. Apart from that I feel sorry for everybody who died by the hand of an other man. Nothing will ever justify to me the fact that one man takes the life of an other. For me Culpeper is a symbol for what abuse of power can do.
Bought this book on Queen Catherine Howard. Couldn't wait till it was delivered, but once I unpacked I had a sudden attack of sleep, that overwhelmed me. Before I could read a word, I was dreaming to be at King Henry VIII's court. Queen Catherine wasn't there yet. They were just celebrating the fact that Jane Seymour had given birth to a healthy boy. Music, merry people, lots of food .... it was a nice dream. When I finally woke up, my boss told me she read the book while I was sleeping. It was a nice book, she said, but a little bit too much about the historical background, the book didn't really concentrate on Queen Catherines life, was what she told me. What am I to do, I wondered. Catherine's arrival at Court is not so far ahead, so I better dream a good dream on the subject than read the book.
War of the Catnip Ever heard of catnip? My boss heard about it, but she didn't know that it was English for Kattenkruid. Had she known it, she would have ordered it a long time ago. She says ..... Today we had some food delivered and my boss also bought a little bit of catnip for us. My dad and I went totally berserk. Normally he is an OK-guy, but not now ...... If I even came a little bit close to him and HIS catnip, he hit me with his claws. Yeah ... I still live with my parents and my little sister. Not cool, I know, but I just can't afford to have an appartment of my own. Let alone a house with a garden. So I just take the rest of my family for granted and stay where I am. I love my home and our garden, the food is good. You can't have it all, can you?
Pilgrimage game travel notes Below a map of the route. Who are playing the pilgrimage game: (in alphabetical order) * HENRY HOWARD (Ravenhair) * KING HENRY (jrmslady09, KingHenryVIII and royalfalcon) * THOMAS CROMWELL (HeverRose and Naphae) The game just started and we keep it calm, since the island game is still running. It's a phase of getting to know the route and altering some things. Non-Tudor questions turned out to be a minor choice, so I've dropped them. Well, not entirely. Though also bonus questions will have Tudors as main theme, I will give those who want to discover strange territories some little extra profit. Maybe this change of concept will attract some new pilgrims.18th December 2010 Today a non-Tudor bonus question on my favorite theme: Delorean. It seemed appropriate to start the non-Tudor questions by travelling back from Tudor times. In a Delorean, of course. I'm curious if the pilgrims will find the answer on today's questions. Depending on the results I will make new questions. Fortunately on this subject I know enough facts to give them a really hard time. As for the other bonus questions, I hope at least the painting on the subject of Counter Reformation is not too easy. As far as the picture of a particular person is concerned, I won't be suprised if they say "Hey, I have that picture hanging above my bed." 25th December 2010 Pffff ..... That was quite a week. No, not a quite week I would say. It was my intention to write a bit here every now and then, but those pilgrimers kept me rather busy. They should be exhausted, but it is just the other way round, I guess. Those quys caused me to be all over the internet to look for facts that were not easy to find and found them anyway. It turned out I'm not even save while sleeping on my own page nowadays. Some smart lady found out that I had used the book about Katharine Howard as a source. I must say, I like this kind of smart thinking. Alas ... away is another good source. I hope to take revenge with this weekends bonus questions. A picture is difficult to google. Yet. Let them sweat a little bit. Make it a nice "cultureel verantwoord" (damn, ... English ...cultural responsible or something like that) weekend. I'm going to search too, but not for answers. Have a look around the house for something to eat, homemade salmon pie or some other treat. December 29th, 2010 I did have my revenge! I caused headaches, stress and possibly more. The questions on the details of paintings turned out to be rather difficult. Even that cute little dog, was seldom recognized. I thought him or her to be quite popular. Houses were not so crowded with pets as they are nowadays, so I thought it would be a rather easy one. In the end I'm a nice guy, so I offered them revenge. They may ask me a question also and if I don't know/find the answer they got deserve a point. January 22nd, 2011 When the going get's tough, the tough get going ..... Starting something is easier than finishing something. Three tough ladies are still in the game for Santiago de Compostela. They are real clever girls. When you think you have a difficult question for them, it is raining good answers. They all finished an essay on a Tudor character this week. I'm going to read them today and place them on a separate page, as they are worth to be put on a special place in this wiki. | Pilgrimage of Santiago de Compostela We are travelling from Saint Jean-Pied-du-Port to Santiage de Compostela, which is 769 km (480 miles). The route is divided in 7 tracks: 1. The pilgrimage track: Saint Jean-Pied-du-Port - Pamplona (13 points) 2. Queen Anne of Cleves/Queen Catherine Howard track: Pamplona - Logrono (16 points) 3. Henry Howard track: Logrono - Burgos (10 points) 4. King Henry VIII track; Burgos - Sahagún (10 points) 5. Thomas Cromwell track: Sahagún - León (10 points) 6. The pilgrims track: León - Astorga (15 points) 7. Astorga - Santiago de Compostela (16 points) Each track has a theme and you can expect questions on that theme. To reach Santiago de Compostela you need 150 points. You can earn them by collecting 90 track points AND 60 bonus points. TRACK points: 1. 13 points 2. 16 points 3. 10 points 4. 10 points 5. 10 points 6. 15 points 7. 16 points -------------- 90 points BONUS points: Each weekend you can earn 10 points by answering bonus questions. You need at least 60 points to reach the finish. You will probably earn more bonus points than you need on this game, especially when you are a member of a larger team. If you like this game then try to earn as many as you can. There will be a sequel with a new element added for which you can use the surplus of your bonus points. * Track-points can be taken from one track to the next (say you have deserved 12 points at track 1. and the next day you score 3 points on that track, then you may use the surplus of 2 points at track 2.) * Track-points and bonus-points are not interchangeable. You can only win if you have 90 track-points AND 60 bonus-points. * To find an answer to the questions you may use books as well as the internet (google or sites you know). * You play for a team of your choice and on your own account. Choose the team you want to join or start your own (Tudor character) team. The points you gain will be noted at your name as team-member and added to the total of the team. We are playing for team honour, but there will also be an individual winner: the team-member with the highest score * Track 6., the pilgrims track, is a special one. This time it is up to you to make the questions. You can send me as many Tudor-related questions as you like and I will see to it that an even amount will be used from each pilgrim. Sending questions is voluntarily, but if you don't participate you give away some points to the competition, as every question-maker will also be able to answer his or her own questions. * You can post your answer or, avoiding to give away your answers, you can send it to me in a message and I then will copy and paste the results as soon as the scores will be posted. * As soon as points are scored on a certain track, the theme of the next track will be disclosed (so as soon as anyone scored points in track 2, I'll tell you what the theme of track 3 will be). * Track-questions are Tudor-related and so are most bonus-questions. You can gain however some bonus-points by answering a non-Tudor question. |
Ravenhairs Survival Island Game
As I contributed to the release of both King Henry VIII and his friend Charles Brandon,
it seemed appropriate to have the banners, designed by jrmslady09, on my page also.
All men are off their islands by now. Thomas Culpeper ended as 4th and
once again jrmslady09 made a beautiful banner to celebrate the fact.
Thanks, jrmslady09, for your banners.
