Caption #1: Contrary to popular beliefs, It was actually Wolsey who discovered creative ways to "Flip the Bird" However, when Henry began to notice these "creative expressions" being directed toward him frequently, it was Wolsey who suffered dire consequences. Submitted by: TheLadyNatalie

Caption #3:

When Henry suggested bringing his fiancée on a tour of York Place, Wolsey didn't see any harm in agreeing... at least at first.

ANNE: (offscreen) It's so beautiful here! Did you choose the tapestries yourself, Your Eminence? They look great. This is one of the finest palaces I've ever seen!

HENRY: (offscreen) Do you like it, my love? You know, Thomas, Anne's birthday is coming up next month...

WOLSEY: (thinking) You just had to show off your new palace, didn't you, Wolsey old boy? Didn't you learn anything from when the King "admired" Hampton Court?!

OR

The TRUE reason for Wolsey's downfall...

WOLSEY: ...six... seven... eight...

ANNE: (offscreen) He's cheating! Look at him! He's supposed to be covering his face with his hand, not just with his finger! He's peeking!

HENRY: (offscreen) Goddammit, Wolsey! I forgave you for screwing up my Great Matter but if there is one thing I will not stand for, it's cheating at Hide and Seek! I'm having you arrested for this! (mutters) Let's see how well you cheat when you don't have a head...

Wolsey to self while outside his study:
I can't take being so polite to them anymore. All I want to be is the next pope is that too much to ask? His great matter ughhhh.

King Henry comes storming down the hallway
looking for Cardinal Wolsey

King Henry: "What is wrong with you today Wolsey and why are you scratching your forehead so awkwardly?"

Wolsey: "Your Majesty.. I just...don't feel myself today. (scratching nose and forehead with middle finger) (Big knowing grin on Wolsey's face)
"Now where were we when I last spoke to you? But of course how COULD I forget?! We were discussing YOUR GREAT MATTER!"

And the rest is history. It is even speculated that Cardinal Wolsey mooned the king while losing it and shouted something about "Where the sun dost not shineth" but this is not fact. However, if this unusual tidbit of history is in any way partially true,
Wolsey's sarcasm and crude behaviour was not forgiveable to King Henry in any way. No, not at all.
