In your opinion which of Henry's kid was the most damaged? You've got Edward the budding serial killer aka tortures animals. Mary and her burning of heretics, and Elizabeth "daddy killed my mommy and my step mommy and tried to kill my other step mommy....so Im never letting any man touch me"

I had a thought when watching the show. When Henry was hurt in that jousting accident i beleive if I am not mistaken that he was potentially close to death in actual life. If his death would have come at that time then Elizabeth would have been pronounced Queen with Thomas Bolyn being in charge. Anne would have never been beheaded. Jane would have never been queen. What do you think the ramifications would have been for England if this had played out. Do you think Henry would be as popular in history today if he did not have his 6 wives.

I put together some paintings/portraits of the first three Queens and their children. I've noticed similarities in all of them, some major, some minor, but resemblence none the less. Tell me what you think and see...

I've liked a lot of the hypothetical history questions that have been posted by karenofbethany, angelosdaughter, and others and thought of one of my own to ask and see where the discussion goes. Here's the situation: you're Henry VIII during the early 1520's. The Tudor Dynasty has been in power for less than four decades and you would certainly like to see it continue after you die. Let's say divorce and remarriage for yourself is out of the question. You have one daughter, Princess Mary, who is legitimate, and one son, Henry Fitzroy, who is illegitmate. You also have potential heirs in the children of your sisters Princess Mary and Princess Margaret (both have legitimate sons). How do you think Henry could have better resolved the succession crisis without a legitimate male heir?
I've heard that if Henry could have only gotten over his xenophobia and made his nephew Prince James of Scotland his heir the whole succession crisis and serial marriages could have been easily avoided. The more I think about it, the more this makes sense - have Princess Mary wed Prince James and the Tudor dynasty would be vicariously continued through the Scottish Stuarts. But what say you, might there have been a better arrangment?

I'm wondering if anyone on our wiki would be interested in discussing The Stuarts during the Tudor reign(s). They are not significant during the time of our show, but Henry's sister was married to James V of Scotland and in Elizabeth's generation we see Mary Stuart as a viable candidate for the throne. Henry VIII was himself involved in a plot to Kidnap the infant Mary and hold her in England as a spouse for Edward. The controversy over Elizabeth and Mary Q of Scots is of course as complicated as any. If you all feel it's not relevant, don't answer, o-k by me.

I wonder why Henry is obsessed about having male issue, when there were female soverigns in England's past? I understand that women were considered second-class, but Henry's own mother was a formidable influence, and he relied a lot on Katherine's advice when he first ascended to the crown. Was it the "male-heir" obsession or just the "I'm a man!" syndrome that drove him?
