Mary's son Henry was born in 1526. At Easter 1527 Henry offered to make Anne his Maitresse en tresse. Henry had very little experience of the word no so there is nothing to suggest that Henry was expecting Anne to (gasp!) turn him down. When he did come to terms with the fact that the only way he would get Anne was through marriage he & Anne were both confident that the annulment was just a matter of course. Part of his case for his annulment from KOA was that the documentation for the dispensation had not been done properly. Henry was quite open in asking for a properly worded water tight dispensation for his having relations with Anne's sister. At the time people believed that the production of healthy (male) children was solely down to the female. Therefore Henry saw KOA's (alleged) relationship with his brother as the cause of her failure to produce sons whereas his relationship with Mary wouldn't affect Anne's ability to give him an heir. (Whether experience changed his view later or he simply used his affair with Mary to conviently dispose of Anne is debatable).
