"You are right, the real Surrey was about 30 and David O'Hara is near 45. I agree that his loutish behaviour would be more appropriate to a young man who is still trying to bluster his way through life instead of someone who is of an age to have acquired some dignity, though we did see some seriousness and dignity in his exchange with Brandon. As for his split personality, the short description in his character profile states that he was a contradictory person and he does not seem to object to the lower classes as long as they keep their place [i.e. taverns and fields] but does not want them close to the king: this is not new, his father Norfolk, Boleyn and Buckingham objected to Wolsey and the Seymours and Brandon objected to Cromwell: both were reviled because of their 'low birth' and their influence with the king, mostly because they saw their influence as eroding the priveledge and power of the nobility. As for Surrey's frequenting taverns, I think it an example of how he felt out of place in at court which was supposed to be his own milieu, but oddly found respect and a place he could be lordly in the tavern with lower classes. Maybe a sign of insecurity to be comfortable in a place where you just had to be yourself to be everyone's superior or maybe just more of his much noted arrogance.
But I still love David O'Hara, so I would probably be captivated even if they had cast him as Lady Rochford, LOL."
