Recently I had the pleasure of answering a question from one of our members on what it was like to be an extra on the Tudors and it occured to me that perhaps other members might be slightly interested so here goes.. As you know 2009 was the last season so it was a rather a dramatic and indeed moving series and while it was not the end of Tudor times, it was the final years of Mister Henry Tudor. The entire series was made in the Dublin and Wicklow areas which some of you would know encompasses our capital city and also some of the finest scenic locations in Europe. Much of the indoor scenes were filmed in Ardmore Studios in Bray where the sets included the court, Henrys bedroom and several other rooms The attention to detail was unbelieveable and many of the items as in furniture were of antique quality. When you see a group of Nobles around the table I assure you the table is made of oak, the writing set is made of solid brass and the quil that writes the letter is a real feather and the hand that moves the quill is a trained caligrapher. The days that were shot in studio usually started about 7.30 and when you arrived and signed in you then went to hair and make up. From there to wardrobe where we donned our costume. We were fitted for our costume prior to the first shoot including chain of office etc and this costume remained yours for the duration of the series. After costume and in your full attire you could go and have breakfast. So you can imagine the canteen. Henry in his regal attire with the Earlf of Surrey demolishing a full 'Irish' while at the next table an arguement between six hefty yeomen as to who was to up for the tea. In the corner there would be a couple of torturers and executioners in bloodstained aprons pouring over the results of the Premiership football league. So lets see how this goes down and do you want more.
