My husband is a photographer, and every Friday night we go to the camera club, which is always enjoyable, but that meant that last year when series 1 of The Tudors was on tv on a Friday night, I missed it. Well, very soon, I will be getting The Tudors on dvd, and I can not wait to watch them! I have read many excellent reviews about The Tudors, so can you tell me, is it really that excellent? I just adore the Tudor period, and I try to get everything I can about them, so I am just itching to watch The Tudors on dvd. Also, I am going to be getting 'Rome' on dvd aswell, did any of you watch that when it was on tv? (another one I missed!), if so, was it good, because that too got excellent reviews.

For everyone who loves this series: the current issue of Renaissance Magazine has a cover picture of Jonathan Rhys-Myers, and Natalie Dormer as Henry and Anne as well as an article about the series. I don't know if you live in the USA, but I find Renaissance Magazine at my locat Borders Bookstore.

The Following Picture are of a promo that showtime sent out the the cable providers. I work at One of the top 10 cable providers and was able to get this promo.

Has anybody else seen the first episode of season 2? Wow it is amazing! JRM looks soo good as does the rest of the cast. I can't wait for the rest of the season.

True, but couldn't a king legitamize any child he choose as much as he could declare Mary or Elizabeth illegitamate? Before Fitzroy died, Henry submitted an Act to Parliment that would have made him hier to the throne, but we all know how that turned out for him.

I will say this show does a great job in throwing history and fantasy together. while some things are probably wrong * and we shall never know for sure* it is still a great job. I will say im quite disappointed that some people think the wrong people were placed in some of the roles. I think they did a marvelous job. Jonathan is fiery and has a persona about him i just love..and natalie even with the blue eyes is the perfect anne boyeln..looks shouldn't be the reason a person is cast it should be what they hold how the speak and carry the character and dont think their could be a better cast. I know others think other wise so if you do please dont harp on here about it. your entitled to your opinion as i am to mine..anyone who agrees is welcome to say so..just dont want unwanted drama :)

Can any body tell me if they are going to show # 2 on Sunday night? I can't wait I want to see whats going to happen to Anne and Henry and see who is going to try to kill Anne, last week we saw how Henry lost his temper and I saw in her eyes a look of fear did any of you see that , as if she is worried about this whole thing and he seems to be acting as if he is not sure of himself either. This is what I noticed.

I did see a bit of fear in her eyes this past week - but what was also interesting was how she was able to calm him down. Wonder how long that will work.

As a former journalist, I'm a fanatic about accuracy, so please, please PLEASE correct the info on Sir Thomas More. You say he refused to sign the petition asking the Pope to annul "thomas More's" marriage to Anne Boleyn. That should read HENRY'S marriage to Anne Boleyn!

Good news...i work for a cable company and we got in a package from showtime.. And guess what.. It had the second season with episodes 1-4 in a nice book layout.. So im really glad i was able to get a copy and will be enjoying this tonight. How cool was that??? I was really stoked

I know men were so brainwashed when it came to women. I bet if Henry could have seen how well Elizabeth ruled England he would not have cut off Anne's head just to get a son. His daughter was one of England's most outstanding monarchs. He should have recognized her potential.

I saw this on the subway yesterday and really was thinking about young kids.. what sort of message are we endorsing in public spaces..
this may be a joke today but for young children, the producers should think about how desperate they are to get an audience interested.
WOW if CTV had done this, it would be bad bad but now the CBC is doing it.. well finally they are also rock bottom as far as using sex to sell to an ignorant bunch of north americans.. they dont have their brains anywhere else anyway.

First off, your points are a valid analysis of the poster. I must admit, I didn’t get into this series for a long time because I thought, from the media advertising, that “the Tudors” was essentially a soft core porn soap opera. My first reaction was that it would be a waste of my time, not an assault on the advancement of women. Had I read Noami Wolf’s “The Beauty Myth” recently, perhaps I would first suspect sexism, but since I haven’t read it since high school that wasn’t what was first on my mind when I saw the poster’s content.
Though, jimbelushi, you could be right (though you were wrong to soley blame “ignorant north Americans” like the CBC, this series was co-produced by Eire Television so you would have to blame the “ignorant” Irish as well) or it could be one of a number of plausible reasons I’ve thought up:
A) It’s a conspiracy by a sexist, male chauvinist CBC / Eire TV and their sexist marketing / advertising
B) They used models or smaller name actresses pose behind JRM who don’t actually play a large role in the series but the concept of the shot was for JRM to be surrounded by the attractive bodies of ladies to convey Henry’s virility and “play boy” historical reputation
C) It was a decision of the editing room to crop off the heads to keep the focus of the viewer on JRM, the star of the series
Personally I think it’s a combination of B and C, just because I’ve watched the entire first season and I haven’t seen very much chauvinism conveyed in the series itself, only its advertising which capitalizes on the “sexiness” of history, be it accurate or no. Anybody who says Showtime isn’t capitalizing on “sex sells” to market the series is deluding themselves. Just compare the advertising and content of the series to the masterpiece theatre counterparts.

They got the Material in Los Angeles probably - the Garment district
I am sure they have such a place in other countries but the prices are superb!
Make a bodice you can wear with pride and be historically accurate.
