I was impressed, overall, with the casting. I recognize the inconsistencies, inaccuracies, and liberties taken on the show; however, I do think that the actors managed to capture at least the spirit of their historical counterparts.

That said, I have to list the following as least favourites:

George Boleyn, Lord Rochford - I approve of Hirst's decision not to show him as a paragon of charm and courtliness (there are several authors who have shamelessly glorified Rochford). However, on The Tudors, I detest his character for his behaviour towards the Lady Rochford (his assault of her is certainly fabricated). All that this accomplished was that it made me feel he truly deserved his fate.

Thomas Culpepper - Rather the same complaint. His perverse, sadistic streak disgusted me. I saw nothing in his character worth liking. I've read accounts of Culpepper's assault on a countrywoman, but the scene on the show was so gruesome. From that point on, I knew I could never like him; I can't understand why he appealed to young Kathryn. (The same goes for Dereham.)

And, finally...

Kathryn Howard - I attribute my dislike of Kathryn not to Tamzin Merchant (who happens to be a rather excellent actress) but to the writing. I understand the real Kathryn Howard to have been a naive and uneducated child, though I doubt that her temperament was as silly and petty as portrayed on the show. Kathryn was a loving, trusting, generous girl, and kinder than she should have been towards those who would do her harm. Tamzin's Kathryn, however, is very unsympathetic. I preferred every one of Henry's other wives to her.

That is all that I can think of for now.

EDIT: I don't care for Brandon's wives, nor his mistresses. They seem so shallow to me; aside from Margaret, who had an important role in season one, I think the show could've lived without them.

You know who drives me mad? The person who wrote this up. They advertise the show as fiction. If you want historical accuracy go watch a documentary, not a pay channel drama.

Anne Boleyn- Audrey Tautou (excellent suggestion as she's French)
Jane Seymour- Melanie Laurent (a bit of a resemblance and she looks very wholesome)
Anne of Cleves- Joanna Froggatt (I think she looks like her actually, and she's cute but not beautiful)
Katherine Howard- Rachel Hurd-Wood (I think she'd make her more calculating and less of a bimbo)
Katherine Parr- Kate Winslet (I think she was born for this role)
Princess Mary- Emily Browning
Princess Elizabeth- Hannah Murray (she has Elizabeth's eyes imo)
Prince Edward- Freddie Highmore (although I think he may be a bit too old now)

I just re-watched the whole series from Season 1 to Season 4, and just for the heck of it, I watched the last episode from the final season right after one of the first from the first season to compare Henry/Jonathan. I truly believe he is an amazing (and accurate) Henry VIII. Yes, physically, he might be a little off, but he really embodied the persona of the King from start to finish. Like Rhys Meyers said in a behind-the-scenes interview, Henry VIII was "the most dangerous man at court", and Jonathan really gave his character that "alpha male" trait throughout the series from when Henry was just a testosterone-charged teen to when he was kind of crazy, old, and wanted to chop everyone's head off. However, there was more to Henry's personality than always actin' like he could beat everyone else up: he was an artist, writer, scholar, and quite charming. Rhys Meyers also gave the audience a show of Henry's softer qualities, mixed in with the rougher ones; this probably fitted Henry's historical character in real life, as he was known to flit between the two haphazardly. Season 1 is definitely the "sexy" one, Season 2 is the drama-filled one with Anne in a tizzy every five seconds, Season 3 is religion-centered one with the fallout of splitting with Rome (surprisingly pro-Catholic, which being Catholic, I did appreciate), and Season 4 is the wind-down to end of his life and his lasting effects on England. Overall, it is simply an a m a z i n g show! (and sorry this so long, but I am truly a fan!)

Show sympathy in war is symbol of brave hero. Every one aware sex is a natural process there is no doubt and if both involved to doing sex, we must appreciate them. However Brandon was not even brave and clever but also opportunist, watch last battle in session 4

thats really cool. The tudors definetly inspired a new breed of history buffs to explore a very important part of english history, it certainly increased my interest of Elizabeth, mary and edward and what became of them after Henry died :-)
