MORE ABOUT ME...
Check out this book trailer for The King's Rose

I joined this wiki because: I've enjoyed The Tudors series and even more so I love Tudor history and historical fiction depicting Henry and his many wives. Plus, the delicious photos of the costumes from the series pulled me into this site, as that is one of my favorite parts of the show!

The best word to describe me is: hmmmm....creative? Maybe also compulsive? Compulsively creative? That's two words, I know.

Interests: History, fiction, writing, poetry, music. My second novel, The King's Rose, is about Catherine Howard and will be released in March 2009, published by Dutton Books. I listened to a lot of great music written by King Henry while writing it - Pastime with good companie is one of my favorites - along with the soundtrack to The Virgin Queen, the BBC miniseries about Queen Elizabeth which I adored. And I love reading: The Autobiography of Henry VIII by Margaret George is in my top five favorite books ever (along with Nabakov's Lolita, Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five, Stoker's Dracula, Morrison's Beloved, Spencer's Endless Love...okay, yes, that's more than five. I have a whole other list for children's and young adult books so don't get me started).

Some books I read to research Catherine Howard and King Henry:
The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir
The Wives of Henry VIII by Antonia Fraser
A Tudor Tragedy, the Life and Times of Catherine Howard by Lacey Baldwin Smith
Katherine Howard by Joanna Denny
Interesting resources about the Tudor era:
Birth, Marriage, and Death: Ritual, Religion and the Life Cycle in Tudor and Stuart England by David Cressy
All the King's Cooks: the Tudor Kitchens of King Henry VIII at Hampton Court Palace by Peter Brears
All Goodly Sports: Music of King Henry VIII (CD) by King Henry VIII of England, Sirinu, and Hugh Wilson

Favorite movies: Amadeus, Sense & Sensibility, Napoleon Dynamite.

Favorite TV shows: The Tudors, The Office, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Flight of the Conchords.

My hero(es): My literary heroine - the incredibly brave Wilhelmina Harker from Dracula

My superpower is: Flight. Dream travel.

If I could live anywhere, it would be: Scotland, near Loch Ness.

My dream job(s): full-time writer - though I know it would have it's drawbacks! Luckily I really like all of the people I work with at my day job.

What else you should know about me: I love to chat with other Tudor history buffs, other readers, and other writers. So stop by and say hello! Also, if you would like more details about my books, visit my official Alisa M. Libby website. I also have a blog: Alisa's blog: a bloody countess, a ghost queen, and me.

I was thrilled to read your profile. I have been a long time fan of Tudor History, which oddly enough started with my favorite author Ms. Susan Howatch, who is a best selling gothic writer since the 1970's until recently. She is best known now as the Author of "The Church Series", which is comprised of 6 books about the major clergymen in the mythical town of Starbridge which are all fabulous. She had a Anglo Catholic revelation, or should I say conversion, and also has a law degree, and recently a million dollar chair at Cambridge. I mention this as you are an author, and I think you would appreciate the depth of her knowledge of history, character development, Christian philosophy, and especially her insight into human nature. Every book is a page turner. I read every one every year, and enjoy them every time.
How fascinating to be an author. I would never haven the temerity to speak so directly to an author. Did you study history in college? I tried to, but ended up taking my degree in philosophy from an Ivy League college. Huge mistake. I ended up reading Tudor History on my own, which is very lonely. Please stay in touch. I am very active on the wiki, and I want to read your books! My profile hasn't been updated for ages, but I have about 350 entries on the Tudor wiki. Season 3 is dynamite, but no spoilers. I think Michael Hirst has created a feast for the eyes, ears, and especially for history. Thank you for sharing.
