Family:Parents are Sheelagh and Michael Delaney. He has three older brothers Philip, Conor and Emmett, and two younger sisters Tracey and Gemma. Padraic appeared in the leading role of Teddy in Ken Loach's The Wind That Shakes the Barley opposite Cillian Murphy which won the Palm D'Or at Cannes 2006. | MEMORABLE QUOTES Loves Food It's the one thing I don't mind spending freely on as long as it's cooked properly. It doesn't have to be expensive cuisine either. The worst kept secret in Dublin is L'Gueleton. I love their food. I like going into O' Neill's pub [on Suffolk Street] for the carvery lunch on a Sunday. It will stay in your stomach for three days afterwards. Food will be my downfall. I'll be a fatty one day. My guitar I bought it recently. It's an Epiphone – an electro, acoustic, cutaway guitar. I'm still learning how to play it. It's a beautiful instrument and I can't tear myself away from it – it makes a clown like me sound tuneful. The movies I love going to the cinema. It's my favourite pastime. Before I knew I wanted to be an actor I was first and foremost – and still am – a film fan. Not matter what mood or humour I'm in it can change your day and completely inspire and that's why I got into the business, although it can just entertain you too. Meryl Streep I think she's a very truthful performer. There's no artifice or gimmicks in her performance and if there is she hides it completely. In interviews she seems so modest and she has a lovely sense of humility and a good dose of self deprecation but at the same time she's so refined. Doubt has a special meaning for me because last year, I was doing it in London, playing the Philip Seymour Hoffman role. I was really blown away by the movie – it has the cream of the acting crop. Loathes Underwear on display It's very sexy in the bedroom but it's not very sexy in Spar on a Saturday morning when you're trying to buy your milk, being greeted by a thong in the dairy section. Young fellas are at it as well, with their loose jeans down showing their boxers. It was never in fashion, it never will be. Put it away. Text talk I'm not puritanical about the English language but I hate text talk. A friend of mine was texting me this week and instead of 'another' wrote 'anudder 'and it just really annoys me. There are seven letters in that version of it anyway. It's fair enough if you're in a hurry and but every mobile phone has predictive text. Would I spell out 'y-o-u' instead of 'u'? I would I think it's good practice to spell things out properly. And it's annoying when you start to get it on emails. 'Omigod', 'You know', and 'Like' I have a hatred for the overuse for words like these and particularly the emphatic 'so'. It's just such a corruption of the English language and not necessary. I was in a café a fortnight ago and a young trendy couple sat down beside me and I couldn't help but overhear the conversation. I counted and I think she used the word 'so' 11 times. I nearly spat my tea out I was laughing so hard. You hear it a lot on The Hills. Pedestrians I'm one myself but I'm a very patient one. The ones I'm talking about are too impatient to wait for the little green man and go ambling across the road, with little regard for their own lives. Are you in such a hurry? Are you in such a hurry to get to your grave? It makes me physically uncomfortable to see people wading through two lanes of cars, in rush hour traffic. It's not worth it. Take your time. |
